Napoleon. Holy fook this was bad. Farking awful. Appalling not only in terms of historical accuracy but was also a meandering mess with umpteen scenes of Napoleon mulling over some issue while eating. The final Waterloo battle had some cool scenes, but was ruined by an absurdly camp performance by the dude playing Wellington and a guy with a fůcking sniper rifle!!! Complete trash.
Blink Twice. Also shit. Potentially interesting premise about billionaire luring people to his private island and abusing them (shades of Epstein) but poorly executed, poorly acted and boring. Only interest in seeing what Christian Slater and the kid from Sixth Sense are up to these days. Clearly not much.
I enjoyed Blink Twice

Nicholas Cage is actually really good when he tones down the Nicholas Cageness. I was genuinely surprised.
Rest of the movie is a bit meh though. Post apocalyptic, have to be indoors before dark so as the bad monsters don’t get us type shtick that we’ve seen a million times before. Judging from his do there are no issues with getting hair dye when the world has ended either.
@Tim will hate this flick.
Others might think it’s ok.
2.75 clearly filmed in the UK out of 5 pretending to be in the US.

@dogmeat because zombie movies are the dumbest and dullest genre fare
I didn't think Braindead was dull or dumb.

Alien: Romulus.
I was actually unsure if I'd watched this before, a month or so back, and had forgotten all about it. Yes, it was that bad.
1 pile of dog poo out of 5 kilos of dross.

Yeah, watched that on an airplane screen yesterday. About all it deserved.
It tried to get away with "we're effectively just re-doing the original Alien, for Gen-ZZ", but much worse, and incessant/inane"nods" to the original. Fucking insulting. "Get away from her, you..... .... bitch". -

Yeah, there's been some harsh marking the last couple of days with this and @booboo's Moana 2 review. Well, excluding Napoleon, that really was bollocks and deserves it's harsh marking.
Blink Twice came late in the eat the rich trend of movies of the last couple of years but I enjoyed it too.
I didn't think Moana 2 was anywhere near as good as the original, especially not the songs, but was an amiable well under two hour watch (not sure where Booboo found an extra half hour of footage
).

So just did a search to see what others thought of Deadpool and Wolverine. I must be the outlier here but I thought it was a not very well polished turd. No plot - actors dialed it in, lame jokes. It just moved from one over long set piece (oh explosions - wow blood) to another. Naked money grab by Disney. the Original Deadpool was great. II was the same movie but still entertaining. This was the movie trailer on rinse repeat

Deadpool+Wolverine - yeah, another one I watched on airplane screen, and feel no need to watch it on something larger.
Pretty tired formula by this stage. I get that they tried to acknowledge that to some extent, but the self-referential gags, winks to the camera (especially the literal ones) - just fell a bit flat.
Dumb fun to keep me awake for a couple of hours, and distract myself from the fact I'm sitting in a flying tin-can surrounded by hundreds of stupid, stupid people - but I'm unlikely to rewatch it. -

I didn’t even like the first one so fair to say I won’t be watching any sequels

Have watched a few films recently because of flying. Started Fall Guy but bailed pretty early. Had heard good things about this. Thought it was shit.

Ads, trailers. Add in travel time and a little but of waiting in "queues".
All three critics in attendance were all in agreement as to our ratings.

I watched this a few days ago. Based on seeing the trailer at another movie I had no intention of watching it, but it was much better than I expected. Obviously you can switch the brain off and just enjoy. Some cameos at the end too.

I don't watch ads and trailers (just rock up 20 mins after official starting time), and I order online so no queues.
All one critic in attendance agreed with my rating.
My nieces enjoyed it (they're mid 20s).
Disney will be happy at least, they're making all the money with Moana 2 and Wicked at the moment.
Moana 2 was supposed to be a TV show and they converted it into a movie which might be the cause of some of the issues with the story you have.

Agree on Fall Guy as a switch off your brain and enjoy film, plus it was filmed in Sydney so lots of areas I know well, and once I saw it realised I had seen some of the filming taking place. It's always funny seeing the geography of things when you know a city. The boat chase from the apartment started in Pyrmont and ended up in some other part of the harbour while being in the same place as part of the scene.
It has been a pretty average year for stand out movies this year - I genuinely think I'll struggle to put a top 10 for the year together. I've been pretty consistent with watching a movie a week but this year I've gone to way more I've known nothing about going in - which is sometimes a good thing and other times a bad thing.
-
Funnily enough I was also thinking I was not going to like Fall Guy, but actually ended up liking it. Nice to have the Sydney filming as well. With not many stand outs this year, this was actually one of the better ones

Movies in general are declining in quality.
…..or I’m getting grumpier and more judgmental.
The truth is probably somewhere in the middle

American StarDespite going to a movie a week I haven't seen most of thos (just the bolded ones) but lots look to be horror which is about the only genre I barely watch. This year was a heavy horror year too, some weeks I'd have to pick the one non horror option available.
Also, I personally don't include docos in with movies as I don't really watch them in the cinema.
I'll have a think and see if I can come up with a top 10.
@MN5 I think last year was pretty decent for movies.
