Now or never: Taking it to the next level

Shoulders this morning. Went alright. The usual 1,000 exercises.
Didn't really feel the pump while training but I'm pretty sore now. Good pain good good pain.

Been a rock solid week so far. I only need a few good days to feel back on track.
Tuesday: Back and biceps. Am back into deadlifts after a bit of time off. I had some rather annoying lower back pains this year, but I actually think the culprit was that ab machine that you swing your knees forward on. Whatever, very happy to get back into the deadlifts.
Wednesday: Morning run.
Been a while, but this was what the doctor ordered. Getting a bit hot though which is a bit concerning already in September.I find sometimes the best way to increase your deadlift is take heaps of time off, focus on curls/chins or whatever then come back and smash a previous PB after a couple of weeks of feeling weak as you get used to the movement. I love a good deadlift session.
Do try it.

Bit embarrassing on Monday. Went a bit too hard on the benchpress without a spotter (usually use Smith machine because trained alone for many years). Called out to this big bald dude who came to my rescue. Was a very good session other than that.
Next day, went up to big bald dude to thank him only it wasn't him, some guy who looks exactly the same with the same farking kit. Now I'll probably be a rude bastard and ignore the real hero next time I see him because I honestly can't tell these buggers apart.
Anyway, Tuesday was a very nice back and biceps session. Will hopefully get out for a run today.
Completely off topic. I recall some of you sport the bearded look. I currently have a beard of sorts because I'm saving for a mo for a party. Seriously, how do you guys live with the itching? It's driving me insane.
-
funnily enough I don't recall getting itchy even when I sweat (like a demon). I don't like hair around my mouth so I trim my mo etc more than the rest of my feral beard.
hang in there bro! ha ha stay safe on bench bro, don't want to see you on a fail video!
-
Cheers fellas.
It'll be gone by Sunday anyway. It certainly saves shaving time which is one bonus.
Yeah the BP thing was a fail. Stupid to go for a heavy weight without a spotter. Unlike the Smith machine you cant just rack the bar whenever you want. The dude did however complement me on asking very calmly and politely
Seriously though, wtf do you do in that situation if you're alone? Slide the bar onto your hips and past the balls? -

Yep. Had to do this once. Not the best experience ever.

Bro I don't want you going back to that smith machine - easier for heavy weight (and a tad safer... ahem) but you miss out on all that good stabiliser work if it's just straight up and down.
I think sliding it down to your hips and then trying to tilt the bar to get out from under it is the 'easiest' way. At least that helps you get leverage to lift one side of the barbell. Tough doing that if it sits on your chest!!

Totally agree mate. Hence my rather embarrassing episode the other day.
As mentioned, I used to train alone and without a spotter and just loved to rack up that bad boy. Stopped that for a while, but then got back into bad habits. Stupid.
Will try and make sure that I do chest day when mate is there. I don't want to go too light just because I'm scared of not getting it up (no pun intended).

Yesterday: Didn't get going until 10pm but managed some skipping (50) then side to sides on mini trampoline. Did that 10 times each then ran around the block (with steep hill at the end) three times. Felt much better after that.
Today: Shoulders. Smashed. Was a tidy piece doing AB work behind me today and I might just have caught the odd glimpse of her in the mirror in front of me. That's quite a rare sight at my gym and certainly made my morning.
With school holidays the kids are at an MMA camp. Looks so damn cool. Warehouse with octagon and all the rest of it. Buggers them out too. Eldest had to be paired with a girl who is already competing. Poor fella got his arse kicked.

Lets see.
Weekend not too bad.
Nice 40 minute run, followed by 4x 400 metre + 12 pullups + 15 dips. Then did 30 burpees when I got home. Farked me right up that did.
Monday: Back on old PE workout and certainly upped the tempo. Smashed.
Tuesday: Ditto.
Today: Hopefully run tonight. -
No run of course. Getting to the stage where if I don't smash out a workout in the morning then it ain't gonna happen.
Well still got my sorry arse out of bed on Thursday and Friday.
Thursday: Smashing of le shoulders.
Friday: Legs and arm tickle. Pretty damn good.
Has been the best weights week for a while. Feeling plenty of good pain. Crossfit run tomorrow and then a rest on Sunday I think.
Oh yeah beard is gone now that party is over. Respect anyone who manages to keep those things on. I'm still getting the phantom itches.

17 days? What a slack bugger I am. Been wasting precious TSF time on the Douche vs Turd Sandwich thread.
Training has actually been pretty good. 4 solid gym sessions during the week and at least one run on the weekend. With summer approaching swimming will be added. Eating has been a bit up and down, but could be much worse.
Didn't train today because weekend was pretty intense. Went down to Cabarita Beach for the weekend. It's an uncomfortable distance over the border but I have to admit kicks shit into the Gold Coast. The whole area including Hastings, Kingscliff etc. is beautiful. Wish I lived there.
Anyway was with my own kids and 2 others from a friend of the wife. Their dad is a complete dickhead absentee idiot so it was good for them to get some adult male contact (their mother also indulges the shit out of them). I started Saturday with an epic run along the beach and up the headland (fooking lovely) then took the boys for a scheduled surfing lesson. Then we played touch for what seemed like hours, then went swimming, then my youngest wanted to go back to the beach and then I went and got dinner for everyone. Was bloody tired. Silly thing was that I was on call, so after hitting the hay at 8 I was woken by the phone at midnight to do 3 hours of work. Crawled out of bed the next day to get stuff packed to go home, then we went to the stillwater nearby for kayaking. Damn what an awesome sport! We had a surfski when I was a kid but it's been decades since I paddled. Had a great time going up and down the inlet. Was tough going though because large parts were shallow and against the current. After that I spent a few hours in the water with the boys. It was awesome fun. The ladies were very appreciative, but I love that stuff. Makes me feel fit and healthy and it's totally worth it seeing how the kids enjoy themselves. One problem was that my thighs were cramping up like hell when paddling. Had trouble putting on pants this morning.
Anyway, no training today, but will be back in the saddle tomorrow hopefully.
-
ha ha that'll probably stand him in good stead as he gets older. Bet the younger one has that story locked and loaded for when they get back to school!!
-
The fuck - I just went down the rabbit hole when trying to reply to a post!! who am I? where am I!!? ha ha
-
No training today after I went waaay too hard yesterday. Have to listen to the body which is aching like a mofo.
Hopefully will be able to get into the pool soon. When body doesn't want to run or lift weights, swimming is really the only viable option.

@JK said in Now or never: Taking it to the next level:
haha what did you do yesterday?
Supersets of chest and biceps for 2 exercises then chest ss and more biceps. Then went 2km on rowing machine, stopping every 500m to do 20 pushups. Then did 25 concentration curls. I don't really know why, but I'm just in the mood to hammer it at the moment.
Back in saddle today. Back and triceps supersets then deadlifts then rope pulldowns. No time for rowing machine, but was pretty well creamed anyway.
Due to missed days will combine shoulders and legs on the morrow.
-
Got up like a zombie on Valium this morning and forgot to do legs. Might give it a miss this week and just pound pavement tomorrow.
Otherwise it was a good shoulder session finished off with rowing machine.
Really tired again but hopefully will bounce back next week.
