Lakers turn the pick and pieces left to them into the big man they need.

I want to play a game of Rochambeau with Nico and I’m going first.

    Rochambeau

Had to look that up. And turns out there's a restaurant in Seattle with that name which looks interesting... added to the New-Years-Eve-Resolution-Do-Stuff whiteboard.
Edit: also with some sort of Valentine's Day special event - which I'm tempted to book a setting for one.

Mark Williams is a great pick up, man LA are contenders now!! I still wish they got our Steven, maybe they still will, for Gabe Vincent + Jaxon Hayes or something?

BTW, who is this fucking guy the Lakers got? It feels like they gave up about as much as they did for Luka (I know AD is a great player) but still, two good pieces and a first rounder? That fucking pick should be in Dallas!!!

One of the most obvious takeaways from the stunning trade that sent Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers was the fact that the Dallas Mavericks let L.A. keep…

23 year old, 7 foot 2 center who (provided he stays healthy) should be fed on a steady diet of pick and roll dunks and 2 footers by LBJ and Luka. That's rim protection sorted, now lets see who else LA can add to turn this "lost" season into a deep playoff contention season

I expect Mark Williams will show no mercy on the boards.

    Sorry.

Just catching up with your posts fellas and no mention of Marcus Smart to the Wizards? Shame….

One of the wildest trade deadlines. Even if this period just included the Butler to the Warriors in a 5 teamer that had a bit of late drama (the Slow Mo to Raptors was about to make it fall over but then he remains at the Heat), plus all the other moves like Fox, LaVine, Middleton, Ingram, etc, that was packed enough.

But man, that Luka and AD was out of nowhere and literally. Usually there are whispers, nothing from Shams, Woj or anyone. And this is when execs have loose lips as well. The genuine shock and disbelief was real unlike some of the manufactured stuff we sometimes see.

And ultimately it was about money and power. Surprise surprise.

I have more time for the Mavs than the Lakers so I’ll start there.
AD has had his best season in ages. He’s playing at an all NBA level. He will be able to play the 4 with two very good centre options in Dallas. He has the game that will be a seamless transition for any team. He is a defensive ace and no longer has a pea heart. Getting Christie was a nice bonus because he was ballin too and has some of that Spartan grit in him.

Lakers get a generational talent. A guy that would’ve demanded the highest salary in NBA history, BUT. Much has been said about the new majority owners at the Mavs and their links to Vegas etc on making this happen because of [insert weight, training, etc excuse]. But spare a thought for Pelinka and co who were also thinking about the next 5 -10 years and the expectation on them to have that next big name player after Lebron. Think about that legacy of Kareem, then Magic then Kobe (and Shaq), then Lebron and now Luka.

And when I think about that brief period between Magic and Kobe, the Lakers had some good players - Worthy was still there, then Eddie Jones and Van Exel, but no one to carry the torch. To be the face of the biggest franchise. They languished after Kobe before they lured LBJ.

More broadly I do like the Williams trade. He’s a genuine centre and when healthy can rim protect and even get you buckets. Watched him a week or so go for 30+.

I was going to write “I really hope we see it” - but then I’m not actually sure. He burned a fair bit of cred with me (which I’m sure keeps him up at night…) with the way he exited NO.

I find it hard to root for the pea heart

Kyrie I could watch play all day , though I’m not sure I could last 15 minutes in a room with him

This team screams failure to me

If LeBron isn't the most drug tested athlete on the planet then the NBA just want him there for the ratings...

Seriously, what he is doing at his age is nothing short of phenomenal. I get all the "he barely played defence " chat but fuck the haters.

He continues to be amazing and the league will be poorer when he leaves it in 2035. (Who will the lakers pair with him when Luka retires?)

And Steph was washed at half time, and then he hit 37 to nearly drag his shit team home.

With Luka on board, this might extend LeBron's career further. He doesn't need to carry the team anymore. He can probably save more gas for the playoffs now
