@voodoo I've started these this week too.
Fully on board with Dept Q, you're right with the SH parallel, they're pulling it off though.
Stick.... yeah I don't think Wilson is the right guy, he's a bit shit eh. Teetering on dropping it after the first episode but might give it one more go.
He’s just…the same guy every single time….a loveable douche, well-meaning but a bit useless. A human golden retriever

Just finished Dept Q
Best thing I’ve seen this year to date
Fingers crossed Netflix goes for a Season 2
4.5 chambers out of 5 Chambers
EDIT
Very surprised this wasn't on BBC
Had all the hallmarks and tropes
Regional cop drama
Regular BBC actors - like Jamie Sives and Mark Bonnar from Guilt
Woman heading the dept
DiversityPerhaps it was the realism of things like men telling women to fuck off and vice versa that put them off

If the prison scene was a homage, then it was to a small percentage of the viewing audience. I don't see why the prisoners gave a shit, but then I haven't spent time in Her Majesty's Hotel.
The stabbing was unnecessary and felt contrived as @voodoo mentioned - every season ending needs a cliff-hanger. Despite the clear and obvious power struggles and machinations - a well written series would treat its audience like they're aware they're unresolved.
This is why I prefer Slow Horses; better writing that minimises senseless displays of violence and when it does do them, does them well. My expectation is for well resourced established crime families like the Harrigans to be more strategic and low level criminals more likely to be engaging in wanton, senseless displays of violence.
Not saying it was, just a best guess
Stabbing, I can see it. I have seen it
With Con and Maeve out of the way the violence/killings were far more targeted and strategic setting up a good family struggle in season 2

@MiketheSnow Kevin has already set that scene with Conrad, i guess for the story, it will come down to whose side Harry picks, or was his earlier conversation with Freddie a pointer of a larger plan...
Was half expecting Harry to shoot Kat.

Set up nicely for season 2

OK, I’ve watched ep1 of DeptQ and whilst I’ve not found it completely gripping, it is very watchable. The one thing that grips me is the totally dysfunctional police force. There’s no one in uniform and they are all weirdos. The whole station is just… unworkable.
Will persevere though as I’m looking for entertainment, not realism.

...well I was struggling to understand some of these posts about the Mobland finale..turns out S01E09 wasn't the final. Watched it last night. Mixed for me.
I'm liking the Kevin arc, mentioned before how few likable characters their are but he's becoming likable probably Seraphina too. Agree that the last 10 mins seemed silly. Prison scene especially, it would maybe make sense if they had properly built up that Conrad had a significant empire that was recognised in the prison but it just seems like their Empire is like 8 people maybe and that's including their partners. Will still be tuning in for S2. Realistically though I think if Hardy wasn't in it I might have bailed, hope it corrects a bit there is definitely potential to be a great show.

Agree with all of that

@MiketheSnow reminds me, I don't think I've finished Guilt.

Dept Q is absolute bullshit in terms of realism but still a fun watch. Completely agree about some quirky weirdos who don’t seem fit for Police duty….
wasn’t Akram a civilian ? If so how the hell does he get promoted at the end ?Wouldn’t Merrit have recognised Lyle/Sam as the little brother of the guy she was banging previously ? Especially during their more intimate moments ?
They take the whole ‘renegade cop playing by his own rules’ sctick way too far, Morck would have been fired by about episode two in real life for his attitude…..
But yeah, good series, plenty to work on for season 2 ( I hope )

@Bones said in TV Serieseseses:
@MN5 regarding Akram, it seems you missed the final scene with the Lord Advocate.
No, what I’m asking is how did he get promoted when he wasn’t a cop in the first place
Fairly sure that was mentioned when the chief reprimanded him for assaulting the druggies ie he’s not a cop.

Buckle Up
It's going to be a hell of a ride
And one of the best opening credit sequences in forever

Finished S2 of Andor
Overall, a pretty good series, I do think having a better knowledge of the Star Wars world/history would be beneficial, especially as you see more links to it, whereas S1 could well have been a standalone series.

Teacup
Good series so far, weird and spooky enough to keep me entertained.
Maggie is my favourite character for some reason
Naturally despite good reviews and viewing numbers it’s been cancelled after one season as so often happens nowadays.
Awesome, may as well not bother watching the rest

El Eternaut
Pretty good sci-fi series, didnt realise it was only 6 eps until Netflix told me S2 had been green-lit.
Not amazing, but good enough to keep my interest with enough going on.
