I'm fairly amazed at all the drums beating for Carter. International back 3 needs aerial prowess. He is going to be a massive defensive liability if picked.

Yeah - I picked him in my squad earlier in the week, but after last night I've kind of revised that.

But, I also see people wanting to discard Reece a bit earlier in the thread - and others saying Caleb Clarke has had a poor season.

Makes you wonder who will get picked on the wing? For once we're looking pretty shallow there.

So @chchfanatic could well be right that they're thinking to push Rieko out there.

@george33 I reckon AJ is a good chance as a wing that can cover midfield. I don't like his chances as much a pure midfielder - Rieko, Proctor, Jordie, Tupaea, Havili and Timoci all in that mix.

(n.b. Big Leicester's Toulon got knocked out in France last night - he'll presumably be arriving on a plane at some point in the not too distant future).

Not a lot of oil at this stage. Players are only getting the calls if they don’t make it so it’s making it even harder to find out who’s in. Still working to find out anything I can

Maybe a candidate for the EOYT, but again there would be the question of who misses out if everyone is fit.

Razor might have to make an actual tough call

    Imagine that.....

There's a lot of straw men in this thread. Has anyone anointed Reihana as the answer?

you are spot on, people are saying he maybe an option in the future, the more options we have the better.

I see several people saying pick him for the squad now.

    Barrett, McKenzie, Love, Reihana.

They're only going to pick three of them. If they pick Reihana, who misses out? (That's not actually a question for you - I agree, he's an option for the future) - but, I agree with Steven Harris - it would be a huge surprise if he gets picked tomorrow. Maybe a candidate for the EOYT, but again there would be the question of who misses out if everyone is fit.

Just pick Barrett as a fullback only. 10s are McKenzie, Love, Reihana. It's such a key position that we should be developing multiple players there.
Though releasing someone to actual play some footy for the Maori etc would make sense too.

@reprobate But, Beaudy is the incumbent starting first five?

And from what I've seen in the past few weeks it will be a bit surprising if he's not starting the first test vs France.

@brodean oh well that's Jordie cleared of brain farts then. That's the only one.

    Someone mention goalposts?

    Found them!

Jordie has had quiet games, not shockers,

Yeah but he kicks all our ball away and has been doing it for years. At some point we need to move on and blood the young players.

Surely Razor can shorten his leash, just as Reihana was given a pretty small task list for the Saders?

It's a test series, we move on and blood new players when they as good or better.
And add Reihana had good game last night but anyone picking any player on a couple of good games (or bad ones) isn't thinking. Form over time is surely more important

    Well, I reckon Test 1 we'll see 10. BB 23. DMac
    Test 2. 10. BB 23. DMac
Test 3. All going well (i.e. series in the bank) 10. DMac 23. Love

With Darry and Lord out of commission it would almost be a surprise if they didn't take the chance to pick him.

Seems likely to have the highest ceiling (literally) of the next band of contenders.

So against French B Love gets bugger all minutes in test 3.

How bold. I'm sure we'll learn a lot

I think what is certain is that there will be players ‘named’ in the squad as recognition of where Razor and co are wanting to move towards but there may be 2 (possibly 3) injury replacements also named. The “he will be training with the squad” players.

With Parker injured I’m really hoping for a genuine 6/lock type to be selected and there’s at least one that has impressed in camp.

They might start him at 15, but I doubt they'd then shift him to 10 within the game - in his second test. I'd want to give him one assignment to nail.

If we only ever picked 'form over time' who knows what would have happened to players like Wallace Sititi, Brodie Retallick, Sam Whitelock, Joe Rokococo, RIchie McCaw, Christian Cullen, and Jonah Lomu etc

Reihana is already 25 with 70 first class games and a Super Rugby win. When he became a regular starter this season the Crusaders went on a 6 game winning streak including 3 finals. Sititi only started in 6 winning games for the Chiefs last year before selection.

I'm shocked and stunned to hear you think the AB selectors weren't thinking when they selected Sititi.

Hopefully Jacobson's head is OK, I mean he has 2 weeks to get it right, but gee, looked a nasty knock to be able to come back on from.
