Also there will be the guys here who will probably be like "harden the fuck up and make time" Im not sooking out I just don't have any free time.
Nah dont beat yourself up about it mate. My training cycle has always gone in fits and starts, I think just about everyones (except for Barts and Brad Thorns) does as well. When you have kids its twice as hard to find the time and when one of the little tykes goes down sick its damn near impossible to do anything. I've started doing more regular short sharp sessions at home. For example ten minutes of doing lifts with my keg plus a few planks and chins on the back lawn is 1000 times better for me than not making it to the gym. Do what you can when you can, (if you can)...... and when you do find have more energy/free time I'm sure you will make the most of the opportunity.

yeah you need some form of execise that fits with your work/home life - stealing bits of time to workout as you can. Exactly the same as changing your eating habits. Bart (and Kirwan) have both posted about how they prep for kai. I seem to manage it for a couple of days then forget or get distracted and then I'm back to buying my lunch or eating a really late (and light) breakfast.

But you don't want a feast or famine approach to working out either - you'll improve but not at the pace you'd hope for. Probably not that great for motivation either.
I'm in a similar position, so know it's difficult. Try an incorporate exercise into your work day, say if you work on the 5th floor always take the stairs, park far from work so you have to walk there, and do it at a fast clip, stuff like that. All adds up while you have a compressed schedule.

The key thing when yo are that busy is to plan your meals for lunch and afternoon snacks, also a small thing that can save you heaps.
I can imagine there is a little man standing behind a curtain saying in a hushed, almost whispered voice "Shut up Rb, shut up, we could be rid of him..." and the odd poster..

I'm only joking....I hope...I'm not that sensitive really..anyway I'm at home now. Early too. So I'm making steamed vege with rice and lean marinated pork. I'm going to try for half an hour on the rower before I go to bed.

What an absolute shit effort this was back in the day!!!

This year I undertook a couple of plans. 4 week and then 12 week.

    The results were pretty good.

The 4 week shocked the system. I got back into running and cycling. I lost 5kgs through high aerobic activity and almost no weights. no real diet as such just clean(buzzword) eating.

The 12 week was a complete c*nt of a thing. 7 meals a day. limited dietary options, no sugar, no dairy and no carbs - fibrous carb like ok though. Lots of sups lots of stims and shit loads of weights. Cardio everyday but no running. Just enough to get a sweat going.

I started the year at 106kg I am now 95 give or take a kg. pretty close to abs for the first time since forever. I got really strong and my poor posture sorted its self out. This was an extreme program 8 gym sessions a week. I am visibly fitter and trimmer.

The struggle now is to not binge eat while recovering from a snapped achilles. Last night I ate an entire packet of 40% choc chip cookies. there were 20 cookies in that pack. Don't look at me - im hideous....

Tried SBW skateboard rowing and probs need to wait a bit longer....and probs need better coordination.

I finally got serious this year and this injury really sucked all the positivity out of the room.

    Hang in there mate.

One pack of cookies aren't going to wreck ya.

Haven't had archilles injury myself so not too sure how to go about recovery but you should be able to do plenty of swimming. Plus of course work that upper body. Guns always impress

@JK Everyone keeps cringing when they ask "why the moonboot?"

But Im actually fairly positive. Its Christmas, I have 4 paid weeks off and some NZ IPAs to try.

    Things could be worse.

I got right back up to 109kg. Poor attitude, desk based work and feeling sorry for myself.

My wife has decided on a career change after the last couple of years getting herself into the shape of a very fit 20yo. She's doing a PT course and it suits her. We are an odd couple currently. Large, overweight husband and tiny fit as fuck wife. She has put her foot down and Im her in house experiment. 2 weeks in and I have dropped 4.5kg and again its clean eating, at regular times. Lots of cardio, a bit of yoga and low weight/high reps.

I eat like normal person and I don't feel like killing everyone like I did on the 12 week program. There were days I'd see someone eating a pie at work and I would imagine what it would be like wear their skin as a suit......... I take a little protein with watered down apple juice post work out and that is really the extent of my sups. I have given the grog away though. Its a non entity in my life really. All the guys I enjoy drinking with have moved away or live in NZ. The missus is not a big drinker so it doesn't even occur to me, most of the time, that I could/should even be buying a beer. We don't eat out a lot anymore so there are less triggers.

My calf muscle is almost back to normal and I am no longer limping. It is still a work in progress and I seriously miss being able to break into a jog when I need to. Its been 9 months since it happened and I was told to expect 18months of recovery. Half way and no looking too bad.

I struggled to put weight on it in the first month. I fucked up there. It set me back, being lazy and a wuss, about 6 months.

There are degrees in Achilles tear injuries. A couple of mates have suffered and one was back walking in a few weeks, the other was in a boot for a couple of months and struggled badly thereafter. Nothing to do with being a wuss mate.

@raznomore yeah what Cato said, plus I think I'm pretty lucky, never any major broken bones or anything either. Hell I was back playing netball within 2 weeks of a hernia operation!
