Ummmm. I hear plenty of whinging from you jegga but not a lot of bright ideas. Nice graphs but so what ? Less people buy newspapers. We already knew that. Less people reading them, less people advertising, less money for journalism.Not an odd rant. I'm sick of hearing digital warriors whinge endlessly about "MSM".
Your comments on a random website aren't news. Theyre not fact. They're just comments. Equal in relevance to mine. Just blah blah for people who have something to say and no mandate, no facts, no legitimate website to waffle on. Just opinion .... irrelevant, anonymous people waffling on. Like me haha

When did I say my comments were news? I don't work in journalism I have my own shit to do so why are you looking to me for ideas about how to fix falling trust and circulation?
Have you just come from your work xmas do? Must have been a decent bar tab judging by your posts.

Just read legitimate news jegga. Scoff all you like about the gossip articles surrounding it but journalists are proud and passionate about what they do and it pisses me off endlessly to keep hearing the beat up. You're just the one that copped it so sorry

Do you have a link mate? That'd be interesting to see, in the graph NBRs circulation has halved but they also put up a paywall too so its hard to gauge what really happened there.

What a crazy shitwitch.
I'm not a massive fan of Xmas but not because I'm some sort of green warrior. I see a lot of people stressing out and getting further into debt because of the pressure to live up to expectations. The reality almost always disappoints. Throw in spending time with people you would normally avoid and add alcohol. No wonder it sees a rise in domestic violence and suicide.
But that's my personal opinion, coloured by the fact that the last time I was around kids on Xmas Day I was one myself. I find it boring but for all those that don't - fill your boots. I wouldn't be as arrogant as that oped writer.

Journalists cop it nowdays because as a profession they are not trusted, and with good reason. Journalists nowdays are just internet warriors with an opinion as well.Respect needs to be earnt, and the vast majority of journalists dont do that.

For what it's worth I enjoy doing Christmas, I have great memories from when I was a kid. Getting and decorating the tree, presents, food, all good stuff. We only did it with immediate family which probably helped, I know a lot of people feel obliged to share it with extended family that they otherwise wouldn't want to be around. Nowdays I just do it with the better half and our boy - we have a great time and it's awesome seeing how excited our son gets about Santa, the tree/decorations and of course the presents! Nothing bad in all of that.
And it doesn't have to be about Christianity. Plenty of stuff in Western cultures was born out of Christianity as that was obviously prevalent in the past. That doesn't mean we ditch our public holidays and celebrations - I think of it more of a celebration of Western culture than anything else.
Probably the only bad part of Christmas is people putting themselves under undue financial stress by spending more then they have to try and make a "perfect" Christmas. But that comes down to the individual, and unfortunately those that make bad decisions around financing stuff etc are at the bottom of the rung already due to a lifetime of bad decisions.
