live version Bob Dylan did of "Brown Sugar" from his 2002 tour, and I can't find it anywhere, grrrr.
Was just sent a version from an unlabeled concert, and it sounds mighty fine. Pretty much a direct version of the original, with Bob mostly incomprehesible yet clearly changing the Jagger-Richards lyrics "just like a young girl should" and "just like a black girl should" to "just like I knew you would," which at first seemed politically correct, but on closer inspection might be Bob casting himself in the role as the slave owner rather than narrator. -
Can are awesome. As is Hawkwind! Just watched the "Lemmy" documentary yesterday, and tho' I've known a lot about him for many years, was kinda surprised to learn he's from Wales. Really cool assortment of guests in the doc too, from Captain Sensible (Damned), Peter Hook (Joy Division, New Order, talks about how early N.O. was directly ripping-off Hawkwind), Metallica, and Ozzy ... who declares Lemmy as The Real King of Heavy Metal. Good stuff. -
Watch some growing pains episodes then get down with this 80's christian rocker:
I'll tell you what I'm not listening to at the moment; Miley Cyrus sings Smells like teen spirit. Kurt Cobain will be spinning in his grave
The first - and last - time I ever watched one of those glorified karaoke "Idol" shows, I saw a poof in a baby blue tuxedo singing the same song. Click

Mind you, I saw Nirvana a few times, and the last couple times when they elevated to arenas, Kurt wasn't singing that song any more, which pisssed-off a lot of fans, yet seemed like the deliberate last remaining vestige of punk rock he was digging his fingernails. -
A performance clip and track from a guy I know. Going to his CD release on Thursday at Te Papa (open and free entry if anyone is interested) http://www.tepapa.govt.nz/WhatsOn/allevents/Pages/MagnificentDyslexicCDRelease12MAY.aspx
It was thirty years ago today. Bob died. I cried. -
I picked up a copy of the Beastie Boys new album Hot Sauce Committee Part Two. Those guys still have it.

I saw their video on U (the new TVNZ teens channel) the other day, not bad.

This is the first single... a bit of an odd video.
Recently downloaded Gregg Allman's new album, "Low Country Blues" from iTunes. It is one of the best blues albums I've heard in a very long time. If there are any blues fans on here, I strongly encourage you to get this album. You won't be disappointed.
