I actually thought it was a bit weak...
<br />
<br />
yeah, it is still a 'batch brew' rather than a 'micro brew', so was judged as such. I had another tonight, and I thought it was better. Not sure if that was tempered by the face i'd just had a good session at the gym.<br />
<br />
As a slight aside, if any of you guys have Sky, you should check out a replay of this weeks Brew Masters. It has Sam Sam Calagione doing his colobartion beer with Luke Nicolas from Epic when Sam was down here last year for Beervana. The whole series is actually pretty good from what i've seen. -

Tried some of that Dogfish stuff at Beervana. Quite good IIRC. Must set the MySky for that series as I forget it's on. On saw last weeks one. -

funnily enough, I had the last one in my fridge last night, and it seemed better....I had had one of those days, so maybe that made it all the better <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> <br />

It's becoming a problem from the hop heads like Epic. WE all know they love their hops and can taste the differences between the various strains, but to most of us it is just a heavily hopped beer.<br />
<br />
I enjoyed drinking it but agree that there was little flavour from the malt coming through.<br />
<br />
Also tried the 'Collaboration Beer' made by a commoittee of brewers to celebrate the NZ Craft Brewing Industry. Again it is a hoppy Pale Ale type but more in balance than Hop Zombie.<br />
<br />
I can see what the brewers are doing though. NZ is famous for it's hops and in trying to create a NZ 'style' they are using that knowledge and availibility to focus on something. I could work in a way, that NZ brews become desired for these varied hop characters much like the NZ wine export industry was able to ride the back of it's unique Sauvignon Blanc. There has even been a hop variety created that mimics the Sav character.<br />

<br />
It's a little out of the way and unlikely - but, if you're coming to Nelson, love a beer, and don't mind staying in the country - the Moutere Inn is extraordinary. Just a small village, but they have about a dozen of the beers on the list on tap at any time and, as they say, rotate their way through them.<br />
<br />
It's not often I'm passing through there, and even rarer that I can stop for a beer - but, it would be a fun place to stay the night with a few like-minded mates. Beautiful little area as well. -
Japanese craft beer:<br />

tried some Epic Lager last night in (quite a few in fact) and was quite a nice drop, certainly better than the Budvar and Crown Lager I also drank (the latter was at a different place)

If anyone is interested in volunteering for Beervana (at the Caketin this year) first week in August go to this link<br />
<br />

<br />
They are still looking for more beer pourers I believe. I'll registered a while back and am going to do the Friday evening session. I think they still need some for the Saturday night.<br />
<br />

<br />
This year's event on 5&6 August at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington. <br />
<br />
I need more than the 140 volunteers I had last year because volunteers will be working behind all the bars (along with helping out with a range of other jobs). So, I need you and as many of your friends as you can muster.<br />
<br />
Those who volunteer will receive a Beervana t-shirt and glass, entry into a free session for every session they volunteer and $20 worth of food and beverage vouchers. It is well worth it as while. As those of you who volunteered last year know, the volunteers work hard, they also have lots of fun and get to meet other beer lovers and brewers.<br />

It's on!<br />
<br />

<br />
I'll be pouring at the 'Real Ale' bar tonight for my volunteer session. It's next to the Festival Brews which are the ones I like to taste so I'll be looking forward to using my free tokens at my break. Of course I will get to sample all the brews at the bar I'm on so I can provide sage advice to the punters <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> -
I tried a few bottles of Stoke Gold that a friend brought around claiming i needed to broarden my horizons a bit last night . Thought it was a little yeasty at first but it grew on me quite quickly ,though i will probably need to get some more just to make sure it is ok .

Yep . Had a couple of quiet Stoke Golds last night . Will definitely be getting more of that .
