Clearly the Irish voting block was more powerful than the Cantab voting block at 12 .... Even I voted for Crotty and it didn't help.

Of more note than no SA players is the lack of any English players bar the coach. Eddie must be some coach to get a bunch of nobodies going through an entire season unbeaten...

Shit I thought you'd nominate Ian Macrae for the 12 spot. Wasn't he the last Hawkes Bay bred AB midfielder?

@No-Quarter are you surprised? This is the Fern, how many England games did everyone watch? The 4 against the Wallabies?

Having paid little attention to the voting here which Poms were in with a shot? Vunipola at number 8? Farrell? Their fullback has had his moments too but he's no '100% Ben Smith'

I really don't know how Itoje missed out. Second best player in the world last year.

He looked pretty impressive from what I've seen. Etzebeth probably suffered by being in such a shithouse Bok team.

NZers watch more ABs games. The ABs locks are always two of the better performers in the ABs.

@Nepia also think the Chicago test also highlighted just how good they are as well.

Always amuses me that on a Kiwi based website, for rugby, people are surprised there is a bias toward kiwis in polls like these.

God, I remember when I was in the UK and was about 2001 the BBC ran a greatest team of all time poll, and I think 1 Kiwi made it, more English than anyone else did.

I get the Kiwi bias, and there should be given how dominant we have been, it was more that we made way for three Irish and one Argie, yet no English even though it was clear that England were at least as good, if not better then the ABs in 2016.

Yeah, fair enough. Whitelock and Retallick are deserving players. Itoje had one of the best seasons from a lock I have seen.

@No-Quarter if we played them, I expect it would have been different.

Rightly or wrong, we use the ABs as the yardstick to measure them by, we didn't play England, so their 'stars' weren't really that hot cos they didn't play us and allow us to measure them against our team.

@No-Quarter Argie were on every week for a couple of months, and we played them twice, and he was their stand out player. Ireland beat us. England did not, nor did they even play us, hence...

    You're disowning Cooper now?

On the no English thing, it's probably to do with their strengths mirroring the ABs and being pretty congested also. Itoje, maybe Care, Brown, A Prop were their best shots.

Good call, I completely forgot about him ... probably because he went to school at St Johns. If I was to be pedantic, Lee Stensness was actually Hawkes Bay born and bred from a rugby point of view too as Taupo used to be part of the province for rugby until they ditched us for King Country.
