He got a standing ovation when he brought up his ton. Great to see people appreciating the innings for what it was despite it frustrating the hell out of us at the time.

From Guppy getting us away to a flier, then sinking to 130/5, to Broom and Neesh resurrecting our innings, then having them 60 odd for 6, to Stoines nearly hitting them home, this game was a hell of a ride.
The mandatory streaker was fat and ugly but remarkably light footed for a big man. Managed to put a good step on a couple of the security to make it to the other side of the field where he jumped the fence, landed on the concrete and was engulfed by a bunch of large security officers leaving their feet, so in hindsight was probably better to take the tackle on the grass.
Anyway some light analysis...
With the bat:
- Guppy was excellent but we need him to go on with those starts he's getting.
- Neesh is a classy player, looked very untroubled on his way to 48 before top edging a pull. I'd bat him ahead of Munro who at best is a dirty slogger suited to the final overs.
- Broom is in the prime of his career, he should command a spot in the ODI team until retirement. Very composed under pressure today.
- Boult is lots of fun to watch, tinny as fuck and really got the crowd going in that final over.
We've actually got a very solid batting lineup. Put Cory in for Munro and that helps with the balance of the side a lot.
With the ball:
- Southee/Boult very good at the start of the innings, got the early breakthroughs and put us on top.
- Lockie was brilliant, he has real pace and got the crowd going with the way he was troubling the Aussie mid-lower order. Great to watch, and I thought Kane used him well today.
- Unfortunately for Neesh it was his bowling that got Stoines going, who really got in the zone after that and started belting it all over the place. Neesh may be good for an over or two here or there but I don't like the idea of relying on him to bowl. As @MN5 says he's very much a batting allrounder.
- @Chris-B mentioned it on here but I'd really like Kane to give himself 2 - 3 overs per match in the middle stages in combination with Santner. He's unlikely to get tonked, it gets through a couple of the 5th bowlers overs, and he's a bit of a wicket taker. The fact he's probably the most unselfish player in the history of the game probably plays a part, but he should take the ball more often.
- On Santner, he was bloody effective, very accurate bowler and the two wickets he took were all class. Great to see.
But for all that, by far the best performance of the match came from the unheralded Stoines. That was a bloody pleasure to watch, and his composure belied his years. Rebuilt the innings from a dire situation, and then put his foot on the pedal at the right time to get them from way behind the run rate to comfortably ahead of it. The way some of his partners threw their wickets away was criminal given the way he was playing.
50 partnership where one guy doesn't face a ball wouldn't happen very often - perhaps one of the Ferns statisticians can tell us how rare that is.
The NZ summer of cricket rolls on, still yet to drop a game at home though that record will be severely tested in the coming weeks.

Sums it up very well. Was at the game too and yep a rollercoaster of a day alright.
In addition to the above, I was impressed by Latham's keeping. Having him keep and open really helps with the sides balance.

Williamson needs to be hauled into a room by the coach and given a serve.
Enough with the fucking humility! It almost cost us the win. Williamson needs to get some captaincy cajones and fucking bowl himself. I almost hurled my remote at the TV when he bought Neesham back on to bowl... and my mood only got worse as Neesham got smashed all over the park and Staonis got momentum. Terrible captaincy. How could any captain read that situation think bowling Neesham was a good idea. It has also fucked Neeshams confidence at the bowling crease.
I will be impressed if he recovers his bowling confidence in the next game. I am huge fan if Williamson, but he needs to sort his shit out.
Bowling Siuthee and Boult at the end was the right move, but he had already painted himself into the corner. -

He needs to make more runs than the best alternative keeper though - given that in ODIs you can manufacture openers (at some point Munro might be tried there). It's a handy second string to his bow, though and good that he out-kept Handscombe comprehensively.
A bit more love for Mitchell Santner after yesterday, I'm thinking. Picking up Cummins and Starc, while comparatively not getting smashed, were huge plays in the game.
Sooooo....team for C-H II?
I'm thinking CdGh in for Munro. He won't contribute much less with the bat then Munro did in this game and we need someone to bowl most of Neesham's overs.
Agree with the Baron that Kane needs a kick and be told to bowl himself any time the situation demands it and him bowling several overs should be part of the plan.

There were one or two suggesting that they wouldn't have him in the ODI team either and that we should play four frontline seamers.

What was most pleasing about the wickets of Marsh and Cummins in particular was that they were genuine spinners wickets - dip, turn and bounce to beat the bat for an easy stumping. More of that in the tests please!

Yes, I think it was @shark who explicitly wasn't going to have him for the Chappell-Hadlee.
I missed his Marsh wicket, but Cummins was done comprehensively and just when we needed it.
In rapido's words, he nailed his bowling role yesterday - Stoinis got him a couple of times at the start of his second spell, but otherwise he was excellent.

Marsh tried to charge, got beaten in flight and the ball turned back between bat and pad very narrowly missing the stumps. The comms (based on the highlights) seemed to put it down to a Marsh brain fade but he was done by a very good piece of bowling.

I think @Chris-B is right - CDGH comes into the team and Munro (or possibly Neesh) moves up to open.

Not that I want Neesh to be moved from the middle order, but why is Munro being touted as an opener? I can't recall him ever opening for us in an ODI.

You either shift everyone up one and have Kane face the new ball, or you sacrifice Munro as a pinch hitter with a (admittedly small) chance of getting us away to a flier.
I lean towards Munro having a go Baz style to see if he can generate a run rate early.
