Once again TNZ has no luck with their protests, and Artemis make it to Mark 1 first.

What a race.. TNZ win by 1 second
Something went wrong with the last mark, and almost saw Artemis beat them to the finish line..

    TNZ lead 4-2

Bit shoddy by ETNZ at that final mark. Misjudging the lay line I think and came off the foils, fortunate they had enough margin.

I thought we won the start in race 3 today but we just don't seem to have the gas on a reach and Artemis can dictate and just go round us.

I don't know why I am investing in this. Oracle will clobber us 😞 7-2 I reckon

Assuming we manage to win one more against the swedes

We're not going to get away with making mistakes against Oracle

In that final race, it was like a steeple-chaser with a big lead tripping up on the final jump and then crawling his way to the finish line. Lucky that Artemis wasn't a bit closer.

Didn't team NZ win all the starts in the last Americas cup with Oracle just chasing them down with extra speed. I think it'll come down to that in the finals one boat is just going to be way faster than the other and tactics, match racing skill etc won't matter.

I guess it depends on the relative difference in speed. For our sake I hope the winds are light as is typical for this time of year. We seem to be lightning quick in these conditions. Oracle seem fast and have had plenty of practice with Japanese employee of the year Deano-san along with Larry's money buying a ten speed to park on the back of their boat as they planned all along....

I watched the highlights of the races yesterday. We won or split two of the starts only for Artemis to outpace us to the first mark. The experts thought we picked the wrong daggerboard package, which meant we were a bit slower than Artemis. Great achievement to win two of the three races if that is so

I read something saying that the weather/wind conditions were so variable that it was complete guesswork as to what package to use. There was no real right or wrong just a package that would be randomly more of less effective.

By far the biggest concern is Spitball being the better match racer. Unless we are holding something back I can't see the difference in boat speeds being so great that it really matters over such a quick race.

It's hard to hold too much back because you need to win the right to challenge. I hope we have some surprises for Mr Smug, our starting is improving

If anyone here is really interested in America's cup history and memorabilia I recommend going for a drink at the American Bar at The Stafford in London. There is a whole wall of signed photos and such from the likes of Dirty Dennis.
The whole bar is riddled with some very cool memorabilia from guests and, especially for kiwis, this is where Nancy Wake lived out her last years propping up the bar with a G&T, all paid for by passing the hat around rich old men in recognition of her war deeds. there is a little 'shrine' area just for our 'White Mouse'

Burling said in the presser they weren't really trying to force the starts as they knew with the set ups Artemis had the advantage reaching and on the sprint downwind to mark 1. While it could be BS, the starts against Artemis have been relatively consistent all regatta that it would be surprising if it wasn't a tactic.

Have to say Burling and the entire Team NZ syndicate has impressed me at this regatta. Even if they go down to Artemis from here I think you can say they at least met expectations. Really do hope they can kick on though and rip the cup back from Oracle. Oracle undoubtedly have made some improvements to the cup making it more exciting and TV friendly - but some of the anti-competitive behaviour needs to be stopped. Also Coutts and Spithill are nuffys.

in lighter conditions NZ won't have the disadvantage of the other boat powering up more quickly and hurting the starts-which is strictly due to NZ foil choice for these conditions.

    I think you mean fluffybunnys.

There are some real asshats involved in this sport (I guess there always have been). There looks to be a group coming through though that are a bit more likeable and it would be nice to see them take over.
    Coutts is a prick.

I don't quite understand how a race can have a flexible length (the race was shortened to 4 legs) yet an inflexible time limit (race just called off after 25 minutes).

Much like SFO seems entirely arbitrary.

yeah if they can shorten the race and its a 25 minute time limit - why not just say boat leading at 25 minute mark is the winner. I say this knowing NZ lead from the start.
