Great song. I discovered it many years ago from the Gil Scott-Heron cover. I met him and told him I thought it was brilliant songwriting. He agreed, and told me he didn't write it, that it was a Bill Withers song, which made me feel slightly stupid, but I sought it out afterward and have loved it ever since. Still fond of the GSH version, too:
It's such bullshit that bands like the whitestripes are better known than Fu Manchu.

I never thought much of Whitestripes myself, but I've talked to a few people who were really into Springsteen when he did Darkness on the edge of twon and Born to run who hated what happened after Born in the USA came out and the accompanying massive bandwagon. That King of the road song was very cool though cheers.

The White Stripes had John Peel in their corner (he's now dead, and nobody could trend a band like he could). They also play remote outposts in places like Glace Bay on Cape Breton Island when other bands don't tour within 1000 KM of such places (anybody who's been to Glace Bay would be scratching their heads wondering why), and that endears them to media and fans (some of whom travel over 15,000 KM to see them play small venues in remote outposts). Good promotional strategy that adds a layer of mythos, which in rock & roll is huge.

Eagles of Death Metal are one of those bands I have discovered by accident but shit they do simple rock as well as anyone has or ever will. Some bands just have "it", these guys have "it" in fucken spades. They're in serious danger of entering the all time MN5 top 10 which is an esteemed list. Another couple of bloody good albums would do it.

Their best track is Cherry Cola though if ya ask me.

Bit of old school... be patient, long slow build up like a lot of 90's stuff.
