In the spirit of keeping fresh and trying new things I'm keen to give this a go as I'm sure it will improve my bench press ability.

http://hundredpushups.com/

Off the top of my head I have no idea how many push ups I can do, I'm picking at least 50-60 but seriously doubt I'm capable of three figures ( yet )

Anyone else keen to give this a go ?

I did 132 Pushups in twenty mins with shuttles and wall sits mixed in but not 100 in a row.

Was pretty chuffed with that actually as 18 weeks ago I wouldn't have been able to do 20

I think the most I have done is 70 something at a fitness test for rugby. Will give this a nudge as I recover from bicep op.

Used to do 100 press ups after every rowing session, would usually take about 3 goes to top the 100. but the more I did it, the more i would manage in that first set.

Good fun challenge, i likes it, did chest last night, but might give this a go tonight before leg workout ayway!!

Being dubious by nature I doubt I can get up to those numbers in a few weeks but I will report any and all progress.

Initial test - 59. Form on them really good, I put a small cup on the ground and made sure my chest hit it every time. Arms like jelly but this result means I start in week three, far column. I literally haven't done push ups in ages but benching obviously helps, the reason I am doing this is cos of an article I read in mens health in the supermarket while waiting for the wife and ripping out a ton of push ups should impress most folk !

I maxed out at 200 push ups in one sitting at my peak physical condition.. But that was when I was 77kgs and my arms and chest were tank.. (I was 18 and I guess it helped having a whole class watching me at med school)

Now I'm 108kgs.. And I maxed out at 65 push ups in one sitting..
Obviously I'm gutted.. But it was my core that died, followed by chest, then arms

I guess its good having a goal of trying to reach 100 push ups..

Just wondering.. Is it good to do push ups everyday or even 2-3 times a day? Or am I meant to have a rest day like doing normal weight training?

Crikey that was a hell of an effort back in the day mimic !

The program indicates that ya should do them every 2-3 days, this is clearly one of those intense few week kind of things followed by heaps of rest.

Will give this a go. Regularly bang out 25, stretch and then 25 more before I hit the bench so will be interesting to see where I can get to.

Re the every day thing, one of Dads good mates has a ritual where every day he does his age in pullups, pushups and situps. Hes close to 60 now and reckons he has done it every day since he was in his early 30s which is pretty impressive. Reckons he has never missed a day but surely he has when away or something as cant always find a place to do pullups but I guess doorframes etc could always be an option. He is a fairly fit old bugger.

I'm going to do this, but I'm rather embarrassed by my stats compared to everything else you chaps have posted, so will let you know how I go in 6 weeks time...

Well MR, apparently you'll be doing a hundred !

I reckon the ton is a great effort so I reckon we should all give this a go. I'm not gonna touch the weight bench for a whole month and then theoretically I should be able to smash out a few more than my previous Bench PB.

Ha yeah, true... I think at the moment, I could probably do about 25 before epic failure would occur.... and then I'd be sore for days...

See there is an iphone app too, going to download this and see what it's like. Much easier to follow these programs when the iphone is telling you what to do.
I do a boot camp style thing every Monday, where we'll usually do 20 odd press ups.

60-70 for me without a break has been a part of my workout for years. I got hooked on them thirty years ago when Herschel Walker, who is a farkin' beast, used to use the push-up as his main workout.

(Fast-fwd to 2:32.....he says he's down from the 5,000 push-ups a day as a college/NFL player, to 750-1,500 push-ups per day now (he's 50 years old and training for MMA).)

But, nowadays... I hate 'em. The past five years I've been doing them on my fists rather than fingers, and I sometimes do them on dumbbells. Right now, I'm looking for new chest exercises with far fewer reps.

I got 59 just now...probably could have pushed out maybe a dozen more, but form woulda been poor, and poorer with each one <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Gonna beat you to the ton though pal !

I have a feeling that when I get used to this rather than benching I should see an improvement ( as we all should )

I was one out. Did 24. Long old haul up to 100 from here. I was fully honest with myself though and did them properly. So tonights program is 12 17 13 13 17..with 60 secs in between. I dunno if I can do that.....

Been doing 3 sets of push ups after bench press on Thursdays for a couple of months now. Tonights first set was 65, which is about equal with the most ive ever done. Surprisingly this routine has been the fastest gain of push up ive ever had. At this rate i should see 100 in a couple of months......we'll see.

Starting week 4 tomorrow. Just quietly I'm quite excited to see how many I can smash out at the end of the week. I'm hoping over 70.
