Max's "1000 Greatest Songs of All Time" has thrown up some beauties.

The early 90s was a great time for Hip Hop
Amen to that Mariner......at the risk of sounding older than my 35 years I fucken hate todays Hip Hop.

I have vivid memories of this on the stereo at 5th/6th form parties which indicated the Fobs had gotten hold of the stereo rather than the Grungeheads......

How good is that shit ?!?!? I love it when folk rap about drive bys, ho's, blings, crips and bloods and what have you but De la Soul were refreshingly free of that and a nice change.....anyway, my turn now....( be warned, I could play this game for weeks in between the odd cricket comment )
I used to walk into parties and put HipHop on. One such time I walked into a Dooley party in Waterloo and it created an all in brawl on the lawn. Im sorry but your "Match Box 21" wasnt to my liking and neither were your boat shoes and unnecessarily "popped" collars.

I was hoping to get along to Ladida as De la Soul are playing this year.

If you like HipHop Kendrick Lemar is a good comtemporary rapper with a story to tell. Not much in the way of Bentleys, Benjamins or being "up in da club".

Haha, yeah lets just say I had more of an affinity back in the day with the less catholic schools of the time although I have a few Dooley mates now that all that 'What school did you go to?" shit has been grown out of.

    And now for something different.

A highlight of this year's Hootenany - Petula Clark - fronting Jools Holland's incomparable big band. When those horns kick in the bass starts to funk up, it really starts to swing.
Modern day prog rock. Awesome if you're a bit of a 70s tragic. Like Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd mixed with psychedelic Beatles. If you like it check out "Apocalypse dream" and "feels like we only go backwards"
