Still making my way through the Crossfit classes. Had a slight setback when I got the classes mixed up and instead of doing the beginner class I did the normal WOD class.

Big difference is the use of weights, and since it’s been two years since I last lifted anything, something when ping on the run. Yep, the stupid calf that took me ages to get right didn’t enjoy the weight on the bar or the weight on me and went tight on the run.

I stopped before I tore it, and rested this week.

Endurance is certainly improving. We are selling our house and I might as well have been doing Crossfit classes according to my heart rate and exercise recording on the Apple Watch. So many things to move, now and tidy up 🙂

Yeah, I am not a smart man.

I started the WOD thinking, gee this is tougher than last week.

Yep, staying in Auckland-ish, moving a little further north.

Meh, had a relapse so have had to quit Crossfit. Experiment over.

Will now have to focus on diet and low intensity cardio. Anybody have a nutritionist they recommend?

All you need is sunlight and raw water bro!! Really stink to hear that crossfit is off the table. Was intensity the issue? Or all of it? Just wondering if you could dial back the pace but keep lifting.

Fucked if I know. Unfortunately am too busy at work and home to experiment.

If I do start up again, being lighter will certainly help.
And hoping improvements to the diet will help too, I keep putting it off.

He's also an advocate for not using sunscreen. That's a death sentence for a pasty fuck like yours truly.

That sucks mate. You were seriously into the crossfit back in the day. Hope you get the all clear in the not too distant future.

In terms of nutrition, just don't eat shit. Have reasonable portion sizes. With light cardio and maybe swimming you can also offset the odd treat.

Ha, this thread is so old that the software checked that I didn't want to start a new thread instead.

Been a year (almost) since the last update. 2018 was a bit of a write off for diet and exercise, but by the end of the year I had the health mostly sorted out. To the degree that the specialist I was seeing recently told me he doesn't need to see me anymore, and everything seems normal now.

He put me on an intermittent fasting diet to get some of my hormones back in check, and it's more than done the trick. Essentially doing the 16/8 everyday, often 20/4 (had to build up to that), and am eating at a calorie deficit (1800 to 1500) on the feed days and at least two days a week drop to 800 calories. So 16/8 + 5/2 basically, lots of protein and vegetables.

I started that in January, and I have lost 10kg from the peak of my illness.

Has also made a huge difference to energy levels, concentration. My memory is still not great, but that's easy enough to manage.

I had a couple of experiements with jogging and 10min HIT burst on a indoor bike. No headaches or any of the other symptoms I had been experiencing. I was too heavy for the running, so am waiting until I get a bit more weight off before adding that back in regularly.

The doctor thinks it'll take another year to get the exercise sorted out. It won't be crossfit, but I do want to get back into some sort of weight lifting.

At the current rate of weight loss, at some point in late May I'll be back to the weight I was before I got sick in 2015.

Next mini goal is 83kg, hopefully only three weeks away.

I can't speak highly enough of intermittent fasting, makes those drinking sessions much easier to handle, aside from that and bags of chippies ( grrrrrrrrr ) I don't really have too many vices. The 16/8 has the belt feeling looser in a matter of days I reckon.

@MN5 yeah, I was dubious at first but the Doctor was raving about it in terms of the health benefits, of which weight loss was just one factor.

It took a while to get into the swing of it, I started with 16/8 only, then the calorie deficit, then the 5/2 and finally stretches of sub 1000 (three or four days at a time.

I’m trying to get to 2/5 while I’m doing the weight loss and then go back to 5/2 when I’ve reached the target.

Helps to be busy at work. It’s only hard around 12pm, apparently your body is expecting food then, so if you push through 1pm to 3 or 4pm gets easy again.
