So let me get this straight...Tana rests Rieko the week after the Blues had a bye...great player management....

Good to see Sione Havili on the bench - hope he gets a run.

Still no sign of Blake Gibson...

    I liked this bit:

There is a second start for 2m Counties Manukau lock Matiaha Martin after impressing on debut as a late replacement for the Blues’ injury-hit locking stocks.

wonder if Parsons injury is due to Franks, or the fact he wears his headgear 24/7?

Seriously though, HUGE opportunity for Moulds, I think this might be only his 2nd start, needs to make the most of it.

Shame they had to 'release' Wright (although I saw a pic yesterday that shows he is still training with blues but not allowed to play club footy)

The stats I saw say he started 2 games last year

    4 seasons
    2 starts
17 times he's been capped as a sub (3 other times he sat on the bench for the full 80mins)

Only 3 bench caps in the first 2 years (33mins)

Terrible use of resources from the Blues. If he's good enough to be in the squad, he's good enough to be developed. If they don't trust him, pick someone else

@KiwiMurph likely poor management, but I'm happy he gets another week off so we can unleash him fit and firing against the French.

Williams is bracketed with Bay of Plenty midfielder Terrence Hepetema after receiving a knock at the All Black camp this week.

So SBW could be the third player, who can't play SR because of an injury suffered at an ABs camp. 🤔

@taniwharugby another screwed up situation that sees players who don’t make the playing 23 being told they can’t play club rugby...!,
It’s bad enough club rugby is struggling but let’s give them another kick in the guts.

@steven-harris The Canes do that, too. Jonah Lowe is a player, who plays very little rugby for that reason. It's ridiculous.

But Wright needs to be cover for a last minute injury? I don't see how they could have released him.

You need 3 hookers around on match day even though only 2 of them are in the 23

@duluth I thought the person he had been called in to cover for, was fit again, so therefore 'released'?

He wasn't released to play club footy over the bye weekend either.

Super Rugby teams: Cheika’s Brumbies plea denied

“We had constructive discussion with the Wallabies coaches and decided in the best interests of Australian rugby that it was better to give Willy another week off to ensure he’s 100 per cent ready for the June Tests.
“But the decision was obviously made easier by the fact that Michael Ruru has been in such good form lately.

I can see the logic behind resting him now.
Firstly it has to be done sometime, secondly you get a chance for him to freshen and focus on the test matches and return maybe that little bit better. When would you prefer his rest games to be?

He's played every minute of every game until now I believe including 8 straight weekends between the Blues first bye and their second bye last weekend So perhaps one of those games? The Sunwolves game sticks out as an obvious option.

As mentioned elsewhere SBW is injured. The Blues have confirmed Hepetema will start

Interesting to note that he will be starting while full squad member Faiane is on the bench.

Really wondering if I can be bothered heading down in the rain to see a weak Blues side.

@duluth I thought there were rules around that?

Bet Tua is kicking himself even more now for being an egg and breaking himself.

    No idea

A similar thing happened earlier in the year. Kiri Kiri started with Taramai on the bench

Also interesting to see full squad member Nanai is not in the 23 whilst Tumua Manu is starting.

I think Tana is sending messages to the likes of Nanai and Faiane.

@duluth is odd, I always thought once a full squad member was available, they must play and the injury replacement player is gone
