Read somewhere that Hames has been 'coaching, and he certainly knows one end of a scrum from the other.

Interesting point. He comes across as a real student of the scrum. Good point about Ta’avao too, maybe he's got a bad rap.

Ta’avao would have to be near the top of the list if an AB TH prop fell over.

Ta'avao was starting way too early in his career. I think he would have better earlier if he was eased into SR and his confidence hadn't taken a beating.
He got exposed and that set his reputation.

By the end of his time at the Blues his scrum work was just inconsistent. Mostly ok, then one shocker of a scrum.
The other frustrating thing about him was the errors around the field. His hands were awful and that added to his negative reputation.

I remember his error rate really costing him in his two years a the Tahs too. Didn't start much, was exclusively a bench player in his second year and ultimately not wanted

He left the Blues at 25 and is now 28. He's not the first prop to get better later in his 20's. Still relatively young.. hopefully he goes well into his 30's

The poor kid is having a shocking run this year with injuries, would be better than Marty warming the bench

Tyler Ardron ruled out for Canada with concussion. Brodie out 6 weeks. Seu and Brown out for season. Could be a testing time for locks for rest of the season. Will Cooper risk Laghlan McWhannell after U20s finals?

Courtesy of the Chiefs. Team list for the friendly v Hurricanes last week:

    1. Sam Prattley

    2. Liam Polwart

    3. Angus Ta’avao

    4. Michael Allardice

    5. Sam Caird

    6. Luke Jacobson

    7. Mitchell Karpik (blank jersey)

    8. Pita Gus Sowakula

    9. Brad Weber

    10. Marty McKenzie

    11. Shaun Stevenson

    12. Charlie Ngatai (c)

    13. Sean Wainui

    14. Toni Pulu

    15. Solomon Alaimalo

    16. Samisoni Taukei’aho

    17. Ayden Johnstone

    18. Jeff Thwaites

    19. Jack Jordan

    20. Liam Messam

    21. Jonathan Taumateine

    22. Luteru Laulala

    23. Johnny Faauli

    24. Nigel Ah Wong

    25. Ciahahn Matoe

    26. Matt Matich

    27. Daniel Waite (blank jersey)

The very new names are Jack Jordan and Daniel Waite. Matoe and Johnstone have been playing Waikato club rugby and Ah Wong has Super rugby experience.

The significant point is the continued absence of several players: Falcon, Verney, Aumua, McNicol, Ardron, Boshier, Seu, Laulala, Kautai. But Ardron and Boshier might be back this weekend. Not much luck on the injury front, while Highlanders seem to have a full squad to choose from.

The Waikato Times article says that Cooper made a lot of changes at HT in that game. There was also a strong wind which was behind the Chiefs in the 1st half and with the Canes in the 2nd half. A classic game of two halves.

Maybe you didn't notice it, but Levi Aumua was named in the Ta$man squad for yesterday's preseason game against Counties.

Just read on his instagram that Tiaan Falcon may possibly be back playing next weekend, but he doesn't know where yet (club rugby in Hawke's Bay or Waikato).

    @stargazer

I thought in 2nd half yesterday that Marty M was being prepared to start v Brumbies next week. If DMac is rested, and saved for Hurricanes, then Falcon is a week late... Maybe Luteru Laulala on the bench next week?

DMac and ALB both need to be rested for one of the next 2 games, so logically the Brumbies. Hopefully Charlie's injury isn't too bad as a midfield without either of them gives me the shits.
