I think they're also desperate to get League eyeballs. Maybe Leagies will watch games for Folau like we used to watch league games just for Inga (well me anyway)? They've also got no other marketable players. James O'Connor had enormous potential but we know how that went... That kid must have lost millions.
But that salary is obscene. I can't see how they could possibly get a ROI from that.

Plenty of people saw it in Nonu. The problem was he was a spare part from 2003 until after RWC 2007. As mentioned, he had serious competition for the 12 jersey when Mauger and McAlister were around - and prior to that, Tana also - but once he was given a few opportunities at 12 he flourished quickly and his game developed rapidly. I don't see that early level of flourishment or development in the 12 jersey at the top level in Laumape's game and therefore I don't see him kicking on.
What a load of crap. Laumape is only 2nd season Super Rugby if I’m not mistaken. Once again it’s flavour of the month to diss him. Tuipolotou and Saiili were extremely average ABs.
Laumape has just finished his 3rd season of Super Rugby.
He was absolutely superb in his 2nd season, I was really hoping he'd build on that form and develop other parts of his game further, but it just hasn't happened. Has bucket-loads of potential though.

Historically Aussie rugby players have always been paid more than ABs. I remember seeing a list back in the day that had Gregans wage and it was eye watering. Then there was the Medicare Matt, Lote and Hello deals.

Really? Are you sure you're not just getting confused by their openside wearing 6? Louw is definitely an openside, where does van Staden usually play?
I didn't say always.
If there's a good big true openside, they'll play him. If there's a smaller one, Kwagga Smith, they'll happily play a body shape we would have at blindside.
I reckon Fifita would be told to go away and practice as openside in SA. He wouldn't come close to locking.
I think they're wrong, but it's how they mostly operate.

just exposure in general , Folou is the main name in there that non rugby people have heard of ,
Also well known in AFL circles because of his money grab in that code , it was big news at the time .

@chester-draws no you said regularly. I don't see it regularly at all. I wouldn't call Louw big either.

Schalk Burger got 86 caps. He's quite a lot bigger than Liam Messam and about Liam Squire sized.
And some of their selections were less mobile than that.
They do seem in recent times to have accepted smaller men though. For a large size of "smaller".
