Can only assume that you made some sort of comment on pullups / kipping etc?

Aware....
-
Its a pretty common criticism of Crossfit. We do different types of pullups to achieve different goals.

We use strict and weighted strict pull ups to build strength. We use kipping and butterfly pull ups to get our chins over the bar.

The kip allows for you that far more times (my ratio of strict to kipping is 10/25). It would take a long time to do 45 strict, and I wouldn't be able to maintain any intensity.

Its the combination of movements that improves the fitness and all that, so standing around looking the bars isn't helping me.

The kip also translates directly into the Oly lifts with the hip thrust.

Also, kipping pull ups are still hard, its not uncommon to have to a 100 of the things in a WOD. It hurts.

Kipping would be far tougher aerobically.

Fran is off limits for me since this split disc in my back, but maybe one day.

Question for Kirwan: in that video the title page had 43/35kg - what is that about?
-
Only problem with those doorway ones is your legs won't be straight for a full hang and makes them feel slightly awkward....unless of course you have high doors in which case, as you were -

I don't think they'd be tall enough. Maybe for negatives they'd be ok.

I don't have anywhere to do proper pull ups at moment, which is a nuisance, but the ones I can do I make sure they hurt....

I get so bored with all the anti-crossfit stuff. If people don't like it, they shouldn't do it.

I'm in the best shape of my life following the program, and my two most serious injuries in the last few years have been from jogging and squash.
-

yeah I read both those, like it says, that Simmons chick has some valid points, but at the end of the day, if you don't like it, don't do it.

Same as those hard core cross-fitters who tell you you should be doing it, if you don't do it, don't tell those who do not to.

I don't go to cross-fit, but do cross-fit style workouts (get a great hard workout in a short time) I don't do it against the clock, just do exercises and ensure I do them with as good a technique I can.
-

Haven't read the majority of this thread but yeah, Crossfit seems to be a complete joke to bodybuilders and powerlifters for some reason. Some Crossfit type exercises I can do fairly easily, others are a fucken struggle but it's completely unfair for others to "diss" it so much in my opinion.

I'm a bit like TR in that I do what I feel works, some days smash tin, others do some bodyweight stuff, I'm all about keeping things mixed up and fresh. I've probably benched about half a dozen times this year but yet down to weighted dips and push up variations I really do feel stronger in the upper body than ever right at the moment.
-

Yeah, she has some weird movement issues (why is she doing rope climbs like that?). She's just not that exceptional, and probably thinks she is. There are two women at my gym that would clean her up.

Not understanding why she's down on dead lifts as well, that's a pretty standard movement in or out of crossfit.
-

The criticism from weightlifters is the weird one. Since Crossfit has taken off their participation number has skyrocketed. A top Crossfiter has just quit to become an Olympic weightlifter, it's good for their sport to have people cleaning, snatching, etc
-

Yeah I think much of the criticism is around the supposed poor form of Crossfitters when they do the olympic type lifts. Perhaps this is warranted, perhaps not but there is no denying when doing something else like a rope climb technique criticism isn't an issue. Either you make it to the top or you don't.....

-

Poor form is poor form, no matter what sport/exercise you're doing. Problem I suppose with CrossFit - as opposed to say, Zumba - is that people jump into weights they're probably never experienced before.

I saw another article that was critical of CrossFit, and the theme was that CrossFit was only training for CrossFit, not anything else. Which is OK if your aim is to get better at CrossFit... which is kind of why people do it I guess. That article was just weird.

When we train at karate, we use kihon waza - basic moves - as the foundation of all learning. You need to have those right as a priority or your more advanced moves will simply not work, just like correct lifting technique
-

yeah you get such varied opinions on so many things.

I read an article from a mean looking dude (will have to seek out article in one of the mags I have at home) who ran a gym, had all the quals, and he said basically he will works quads pretty much every works out, and rarely strays too far from squats, dead lifts, pull ups and dips; they were his core exercises.
