    @jegga yeah nah...it's little fish.

Yeah I remember ordering Mussels in UK one time and getting a plate full of these things that were smaller than most Tua Tuas.

@taniwharugby I'll eat punnet upon punnet of mussels from the Supermarket. Absolutely love them and much better value than other supposedly nicer seafood.

I edited my post I meant oysters. I never tried mussels there but the I do gorge myself in prawns when I go across the ditch , they aren’t full of carcinogens and other crap like the ones they sell here.

I don't like flavoured Mussels - and I always struggle to find plain punnets.

When I go to a Belgian style restaurant and ask for Mussels steamed in water they look at me like I'm a loon. Although at the one in Mt Eden I'd often get the blue cheese pot (as they used to do two for one pots and I'd have one plain and one blue cheese).

Hmmm, I thought that the quality of prawns would be dicey over here - as they're so cheap. I'm not a huge eater of them (like them but usually they're beaten by other things on a menu) so haven't looked into it.

I've never had either of those, will have to give them a try next time I'm up your way - although I've never been so disappointed about hyped seafood as I was the first time I had barramundi.

As far as I know they don’t test our imported prawns for rotenone like they do in the states.

    Love oysters and scallops.

Mussells - don't like the supermarket ones but straight off the rocks and into the pot isn't too bad.
Prawns - massively over-rated IMO. Fiddly, lack flavour and way too often over cooked.
Lobster - i don't dive and the commercially bought ones are shit. I still remember going down to Mechanics Bay as a 4 year old with my Dad and being able to buy live crays that seemed to be bigger than I was. The claws would have been bigger than the tails of a shop bought today. Over-priced
    Crab - bugs etc YEAH

Fresh fish you catch yourself - mmmm

I liked Italian whitebait - which I guess is what you got in England TR but in the main I steered clear of seafood for the 13 years I was in Europe which is one reason I love it so much now.

Years ago I worked in the Chathams for a couple of weeks, our host came home one night with two fish bin of scallops and two more of oysters . We sat up till about three in the morning eating them straight off the bbq .
Kind of spoiled me for fresh scallops , I trade smoked kingfish with a mate that gets scallops from the sounds when he stays down there .

@hooroo is that the ones on Deadliest Catch?

After I played rugby last weekend we had fresh oysters, mussels, scallops, crayfish, snapper, smoked kingi.

Personally think Crays are over rated, not a fan of oysters, can take or leave mussels, love scallops, snapper and smoked fish though.
