If I was going bungy jumping I would probably say "shouldn't that stretchy thing be attached me?'

the fact he managed to hold on, for that long!
I have a bar at home (sadly not that kind of bar) that I do pull ups on, but sometimes just 'hang' on it for alot less time; I guess a life threatening fall increases your desire (and ability) to not let go.

That happened to somebody while I was in Rio... sounds like another urban myth, but I seem to recall having people at the hostel who'd witnessed it.
Although in that case - I have a (possibly false/distorted) memory it was the pilot who wasn't attached? And let himself drop off almost immediately, knowing it was a softer landing... leaving the tourist to pretty much "do their best".Edit: figured something like that might appear in news/travel-stories... and yeah, found this - which seems to match my memory, and around the time I would have been there:
