Raval and Latham seem to have forgotten they are decent players and reverted to the 'shit opener' Black Cap stereotype. Both owe the team some runs so KW and Rossco can put the feet up for a bit.

They're like judder bars on the way to our middle order at the moment. It's one thing to get a peach but too often they get themselves out

As a Black Caps fan, I sometimes feel like a bloody Labrador. So optimistic of the world

    (pants) this time is different

(tongue out) Jeets and Lath will do it this time for sure

Missed the whole day due to kids birthday parties, but was disappointed to see we chose to bowl first. Fast bowlers with too much influence. IMO Sri Lanka are ahead at the moment, we will need 400+ in our first dig to avoid having to chase a tricky total in the 4th innings.

Why are we always the dipshits that choose to bowl?

Four straight tests have been won by the team bowling first at the basin. The pitch will flatten out but unlikely to take spin so any fourth innings target won't be tricky.

Bangladesh scored 500 batting first here last summer and we still ran them down.

Was a good choice at 9 for 3.

Just watched the Day 1 highlights. Great spells by Southee, Watling is very tidy behind the stumps, super catch by Nicholls, appalling no ball by CdG, and errrr what has happened to Boult?

Timmy wraps up the SL innings for 282 with his 6th wicket.

Good chance here for our openers to find some form.
I’ll be disappointed with anything less than 350.

I am such a child but the Dickwella Kumara partnership made me snigger.

This pitch has become docile and will be so at least until day 4. I would be unhappy with anything less than 500.

Batting for 2 days should be the aim here.

He tends to do that after making a start. I'm happy enough with him because he is fairly consistent at blunting the new ball, but in order to be a great player he needs to start converting these starts into hundreds.

Williamson seeing it like a beach ball.

His first one was a thick outside edge along the ground for 4, but the next two balls, wow just spanked with perfect timing through the offside.

    Kane 13 off 4,
    Latham 15 off 74
Cricket is a funny old game sometimes.

Love Rigor carefully explaining why a poor conversion rate can't be used to criticise a batsmen. Hmm, wonder what his was like!

    192/1.

Williamson on 75 and still below his average in the last 5 tests against SL.
