@cgrant It's obviously hard to drop Lam because he was top Super Rugby try scorer in 2018, on the other hand he had some shocking defensive plays last year that could allow Rayasi to really put pressure on for the no 11 jersey if he can show more steal. From what I've seen Rayasi seems more keen to get into the game, whereas Lam is a great finisher but shys away from the nitty gritty stuff.

Lam used to have terrible decision making. He has improved, but he still seems to react slowly in some situations. A really frustrating player to watch

Rayasi is still raw but I expect him to be starting ahead of Lam after the first month.

@Duluth Yeah I agree, I think Rayasi and Aso will have those wing spots locked up early in the season with Milner Skudder most likely past his best and Lam paying the price for being a lazy footballer.

I know that Plumtree is a very good forwards coach, but that tight five looks to be clearly the weakest in NZ (outside of hooker). The Wellington pack was shoved around by a bunch of Auckland club players last year.

This is the Auckland tight-five that put Wellington away in the semi-final:

    Sam Prattley (Pakuranga)
    Robbie Abel (College Rifles)
    Marcel Renata (University)
    Fa’atiga Lemalu (Papatoetoe)
    Michael Fatialofa (Ponsonby)

@Machpants Don't forget Beaudy and Marshall still have to come back in. Jono will be on a two week contract i'd say.

I would have thought missing the first week as part of your two weeks stand down is defeating the whole purpose of the stand down?
