The best segment of that whole movie was when the Undertones recorded Teenage Kicks and up to when John Fucking Peel (to give him his full name) played it on repeat.

Been chilling by watching a lot of Sky movies this week.
 
This is the End - Not the biggest Seth Rogan or James Franco fan but this comedy about a bunch of obnoxious Hollywood actors trying to survive the rapture was pretty funny, especially Jonah Hill's Rosemary's Baby moment.
 
Captain Phillips - Just when I thought Tom Hanks had faded away he comes back in this film. Not a bad performance by him or the pirate leader. Based on the true story of a ship captain being captured by some useless Somali pirates. We all know how it ends.
 
Evil Dead remake - I'm a huge Evil Dead fan - Army of Darkness is my favourite movie of all time. This remake has the same gruesome scenes and a few change ups from the original but the ending had me confused.
 
[spoiler] The ending with the main female character fighting a possessed version of herself, after being freed from possession, doesn't make much sense in the ED universe.... unless it grew out of her shoulder.... [/spoiler]
 
Masters of the Universe - Terrible acting, terrible make up, terrible special effects, somewhat homo-erotic, extremely cheesy, terrible plot. But when Drago yells "I HAVE THE PAUA!" you're just like "fuck yeah". And the Teela chick is pretty fine for 80s standards too.

Bit late but finallty got round to watching Guardians of the Galaxy.
Loved it, enjoyed the humour and terrific sound track. Very much looking forward to how this part of the Marvel Universe meets up with the Avengers etc.

Camp X-Ray - a newbie army recruit is stationed in Guantanamo Bay to look after detainees for suicide watch.
 
Not too bad a film (if not slow) although not sure on the casting of Kristen Stewart as the lead, not that she did a poor job or anything, but her sullen slapped arse face just didnt work that well for me.
 
Have issues with a number of the scenes where they are supposed to walk a loop about maybe 8 cells checking in to make sure they are still alive, yet often she would stop and talk to the 'detainee' for minutes at a time, and even when on 'patrol' with others, they didnt seem that bothered.

Watched "47 Ronin" last night. What a fantastic looking piece of crap. Some of the visuals and fight scenes are awesome. But as a movie it's a piece of crap. There is zero character depth or development (the Ronin are either the angry one, the fat one, the leader, or the faceless 44. wait, 43, Keanu is one too, we're not sure what he is). And when it comes time to settle the score, it's ridiculously fucking easy. so much tension! wait, no, the opposite of that. 
 
Seriously, what the fuck is up with Keanu Reeves? Is he even trying any more? The Matrix is my favourite movie ever, i love both Bill and Teds, Speed was kind of cool. But jesus he is terrible in basically everything now. He is especially terrible in this movie. It's really, really bad. He keeps getting paid though.

42: The biopic about Jackie Robinson. Harrison Ford plays an old curmudgeon bloody well - but then again he is an old curmudgeon. Pretty stock standard biopic TBH, watchable without being great, but gave me a good starting point to do some reading about Robinson and Ford's character.

I was stuck in a hotel room recently and watched 42. It was pretty good. What's neat about watching something based on a true story is you can look things up as you go. This picture, for instance:

A Point Break remake is bound to disappoint. I just hope the sequel to Dumb and Dumber doesn't disgrace itself.

I'm going to make a point of avoiding the new point break. It's impossible to improve on perfection , obviously all bets are off if the chick playing lori pettys role is hotter and nuder. There was some hotties on the first one though.

A new Point Break? The only thing more stupid would be a new Top Gun. Both are as amazing today as the day they were released.

I watched a few older movies from this year over the past week.
 
Two of them were awful and I wrote about them but the post obviously didn't work. Two were good although I expected both to be average.
 
The Butler: Bullshit based on a true story that took all the good stuff from the true story flushed it and made a turd. I got angrier and angrier at the stupidity of the movie and it's characters as it went on so was near breaking point when I read how much of the movie was made up. About a black butler who served under a number of presidents at the White House. Stars Forest Whittaker, Oprah (pretty good), Cuba Gooding Jnr and Lenny Kravitz who both were ok, and then a bunch of cameo's by actors playing the presidents.
 
The Rover: Looked like a cool Mad Max type movie starring Guy Pearce. Watched about 40 minutes of poor dialogue and bad acting and just couldn't stomach it any more.
 
A Long Way Down: A movie based on Nick Hornby's book about 4 people who meet on NYE up a famous London suicide site and make a pact to stay alive until Valentines Day. Better than what it sounds and better than how it was reviewed, although about 20 minutes in I clicked that I knew the story and had read the book. Starring Pierce Brosnan, Tony Collette and Jesse from Breaking Bad.
 
Drinking Buddies: A mumblecore movie that was actually quite good. Kind of about two workmates and their partners and them all hanging together .... Stars Olivia Wilde and Anna Kendrick as the girls and Jake Johnson from New Girl and Nixon from Band of Brothers as the guys.
 
Also finally got around to seeing the latest X Men movie which I thought was pretty good.

I hated the butler from start to finish, Oprahs character was unlikable too. They only had one son in real life and he didn't go to Viet Nam either, I thought Lenny was better than Gooding jr who irritates me in most things he's in anyway.

I thought Oprah was good in how the character was unlikeable.
 
It was quite comic how the son turned up to nearly every civil rights moment in history. Also, basically, if the Butler's son is around someone is going to die. 
 
What was so stupid is they could have made a decent movie using the real story.
