I'm a huge fan of his work going back to Husker Du, one of my most fave bands from the 80s, and after that career he then became a booker (writer) for WCW wrestling during the infamous "Monday Night Wars," so I was verrry interested to read his book. Sadly, as much as he tells us in his autobiography that he's finally found peace in his life, you'll roll your eyes, yeaaaah, riiiight. He has nothing good to say about Grant Hart or Greg Norton's contributions to Husker Du, diminishes them, basically refuses to take their phone calls, says nothing good about their post-Husker work, trashes every past relationship he's ever had, and spends at least half the book documenting his exploration of gay sex cruising strangers in public washrooms and filthy back alleys. There's too much stuff there you don't want to know. Thank god he can channel his anger n' bitterness into some brilliant songwriting. I've met him, he seems kinda cold & aloof, by comparison Grant Hart is a fabulous bloke and very attentive and modest. I haven't seen Hart since Mould's book was published, and would be reluctant to even ask him if he's read it; but I am curious if we'll ever see a reply.
-

Ha! Just yesterday I was watching a clip of them playing "Overture" from 2112 a couple years back. Great stuff!

Dave Grohl is a fuken dude, and is totally my hero (watch him as he goes). He's also the best live frontman i have ever had the pleasure of watching. They just always look like they are having fun on stage, and it leads to a great show. This'll be the 5th time i have seen them, and they've never disappointed.

Okaaay... maybe not.

I'm often conflicted about bios for that very reason. All too often people you admire because of their work just turn out to be disappointing as people. But then every so often you get something like Grohl's "This is a call" and come away thinking that here's a guy who loves his craft and is a nice guy too.
-

True. But I still love his music and if I'm in a particularly bitter mood myself some days, his songs can make a perfectly biting soundtrack.

They just last week announced they're reuniting and will be recording/touring. A very guilty pleasure, I saw them many times, the first supporting the Screaming Trees (!!) in a small club. Wareham is purportedly a Kiwi, he was born in NZ, but when you converse with him he has no trace of a Kiwi accent that I can detect. But of course, bassist Justin Harwood (ex-Verlaines) is definitely Kiwi and his accent is solid!!

Uh-oh...just watching RAW and a loud "C.M. Punk" chant breaking out...
-

Since reading about Roy Harper's legal troubles I can't get this (great) track out of my head:

In relation to the BabyMetal video above, look at this. A lot of it is summing up my feelings.

Ditto. And again for everyone Ive met who has heard Babymetal.

wtf? -> this is cool -> wtf? -> wtf? this is cool -> wt -> this -> wt -> Im not sure -> wtf -> this is cool -> what just happened? was I just punked?

no doubt this will result in a new sub genre which is mostly loathed due to an influx of inferior copy cats and these guys will be blamed for it (similar to FNM and nu metal).

but for now - I love that someone has managed to make metal fun, and its great to see some females bringing a uniquely female element to a genre that has mostly featured only testosterone fuelled, chest-beating white men since ever.

and all that being said... im not sure that I'll ever crank this in the pathfinder, for me its kind of a guilty pleasure.
-

The concert in Sydney last time they were out was the absolute balls. A few metres from the stage, trying my best not to get knocked down by young blokes who were clearly off their head. Great fun.

Tenacious D were the support act which was good for a bit of a laugh.
-

Yeah I saw Foo Fighters and Tenacious D in Aucks a couple of years back. Fukin awesome, the most fun I've ever had at a live concert. Grohl is the man but so is Taylor Hawkins. He did an insane drum solo at one point.
