I've rewatched UK Shameless and also a season or two of Skins. Many repeated laughs!

Rewatching some classic British comedies at the moment. Blackadder

was earlier now up to Father Ted.
Fuck that is a funny show, genuine classic. Gotta love the unique slapstick laughs and how they take the piss out of the Catholic Church. Every priest you encounter throughout the series is unique and fucked up in some way.
Gotta love Father Jack too (“more waster”, as he rightly says during a wet t shirt contest dream..)

    Love father ted eh!

Actually tried to watch some monty python over the xmas break and couldnt work out how I use to find it funny

Python has dated badly save for the odd sketch.

Yeah I heard all about it when I was a kid , then I ended up having a mate who was obsessed with it and we watched a lot in the holidays . I thought it was mostly tedious, “ no one expects the Spanish Inquisition “ yeah , ok . Fuckoff .

Watched Fawlty Towers again last year, has its moments but basically it’s a show about a tall obnoxious prick yelling a lot and hitting his incompetent Spanish employee.
Some British comedies are too dry for their own good.

'Are you being served' is still a fucken good laugh.

I've decided John Cleese is a bit of a strange bloke after reading various bits and pieces about him. Didn't get laid until the age of 24.

At the Station Hotel in Beach Road

Python was always hit and miss but it was revolutionary at the time so you accepted that 2/3 were meh for the couple of skits that were gold.

We are talking 50 years ago. Whilst it was very Oxbridge it was up against the likes of Morecambe and Wise and On the Buses. The likes of Blackadder and the Young Ones and a lot else that came later probably wouldn't exist without Python. It's just that what was new is now passe and more than a bit lame

You referenced all those classic old comedy shows but no mention of Love Thy Neighbour. Shame.

On the busses was classic? We used to get lots of excruciatingly bad British comedies when I was a kid , if today’s woke kids are offended by Friends I’d love to see what they make of Mind your language.

Seeing as how I referenced Love Thy Neighbour, the term classic may have been tongue in cheek. Or irony as you would not understand.

    Being a Kiwi and all.

Oh fuck do I have to explain everything?

I was trying to avoid offending you , having read your posts it’s possible you saw love thy neighbour as high art

    More social commentary really

I'd rather have my japs eye swabbed again than watch that show.

One of the benefits of the poms joining the EU and some distance opening up culturally between us was a tailing off of the awful cheaply made "comedies" that used to infest our screens. I'm talking shit like hi de hi or metal mickey or whatever that show was with mr blobby in it.

I found out a couple of years ago they made a blobby theme park, not surprisingly is a post apocalyptic wreck now.

You have obviously not travelled west of France. Or seen TV shows from west of France.

    Or both,.

    Ignorance is bliss.

Don’t the French put tits in PG rated shows though ?

You seem to have brushed over this statement somewhat.

    You've never had that done?

I know it was still common practice in the UK less than 10 years ago...thankfully medicine has moved on in that time.

Is anyone else watching Kingdom? Took me a couple of episodes to get into it but I like where it’s going . The over dubbing is on a par with the original Monkey sometimes though .

@jegga no, but will add to my watchlist.

I have 1 ep of Titans left to go, then might move onto S2 of Punisher.

The Doom Patrol Titans spinoff has just started - first 2 episodes (from 13 episode season) broadcast so far, with Timothy Dalton replacing the original casting for Chief and Brendon Fraser as pre-accident (and voice) Robotman

Started with True Detective season three. Much, much better than the one that preceded it. Like season one good.

Yeah I've found it a bit confusing trying to figure out exactly what's going on and who is which person of interest, but that's no surprise with me. Still enjoying it though.

@jegga is that the Korean zombie series?

My wife is a huge fan of K-dramas, and has watched heaps of them, to the point where she is trying to learn Korean.

And Netflix has a huge number of Korean Dramas. Apparently, K-dramas have taken over from Japan and China (including Hong Kong) for the share number of series and the sizes of the audience. K-dramas are watched religiously all throughout Asia and have some crazy audience numbers. So much like K-pop, K-dramas now rule Asian Television.

To your point about the dubbing, we always make a point of watching in Korean with English subtitles. I have to admit it is annoying and distracting at first but if you persist with it, you do get used to it after a while and you find you are no longer distracted by having to read and watch what is going on. It just kinda becomes second nature.

As for the series, it was really watchable and enjoyable. A second series is being made which is actually quite rare for K-dramas. The normal way is to do a single series of around 16 - 20 episodes or so and the entire drama plays out and concludes.

I have to say, they, K-dramas, are growing on me and I have watched quite a number of them... from gritty realistic cop series, romance, thru to historical and fantasy types like Kingdom.

One very recent K-drama I can recommend is "Memories of the Alhambra" if you like a bit of sci-fi drama. Apparently this series was a absolutely massive success and stretched some boundaries by adding some good special effects.

Last train to Busan was cool too , will check out the stuff you mentioned.

@jegga yeah I liked Last Train to Busan...I dont mind sub-titles anymore, I tend to turn them on for most things nowadays to counteract the mumbling and low voice volume they produce things in these days.

Finished Titans, felt very much like an entree as they are setting up for a multi-season thing.

Was pretty decent, although I do struggle a bit with the multiple DC Universes and who is who in them (ie Dick Grayson is Robin and Boy Wonder, but also Nightwing, while Damon Wayne is also Robin)

Started Safe with the wife, only 2 eps in but is pretty good, kinda in the Broadchurch kinda groove, with Michael C Hall (aka Dexter) as the lead.

@Nepia Punisher is a stand alone series, you dont need to see him in Daredevil. As you expect, violent, I havent started S2 yet.

I think it would have made a bit more sense to me to have seen Daredevil 2 actually - there were a lot of strands of what happened that I was unsure about.

But anyway, I found that an extremely tiresome watch and I guess it confirms that the Marvel TV shows on Netflix are not for me. There is so much filler and weird storylines that actually don't need to be there. I got to Ep 10 thinking it would be finishing up yet it continued on for three more episodes.

There were some good action scenes but there was too much boredom surrounding them for me.

    :::

I kind of wish they didn't go down the best mate is the bad guy route, it was so obvious from the start that I assumed they were actually going to trick us and he wouldn't have been the bad guy.

Weird how the pasty lawyer just disappeared from the show after the hotel shootout episode.

@Nepia are we talking about Punisher?

I am 6 episodes in to season 1. It's not bad, but not amazing either.

And yea, that "twist" was predictable as fuck, you knew it right from the start.

That's actually one of the things that most makes it feel Marvel (i.e. comic booky) to me - as he is almost indestructible. He's on his death bed in one episode and then taking out baddies the next and the time frame in the show isn't even a few days.
