Ha, yeah. Have that taped 🙂

4 minutes to go, thanks for the nudge. I'm planning to get the family down to Mahia to experience what you can of a launch live at some stage

That would be pretty cool actually.

    Yeah, I reckon.

The photos of the viewing area are classic kiwi space programme

@NTA it will take a day to catch up to The ISS, then it will dock and deliver the supplies. Think it’s taking some back too.

Then in July they send up people.

    @Kirwan rad.

This shit is blowing my mind. As a kid watching shuttle disasters and being told these were the reusable spacecraft of the future, you had to ask whether we were ever getting off this planet on a meaningful basis.

Musk isn't perfect, but he's driven people to achieve some amazing shit.

Yeah, exactly how I feel. They have landed their rockets 35 times now.

That re-use still blows my mind. It's just incredible how quickly they have fixed problems and evolved to an outstanding record. Kudos to Musk - may have some issues, but blow me down he's made a difference in our world

I still can't get over the fact that the rocket can land back on a platform when it's done. Puts the space shuttle to shame. I wonder if the docking computer can play music too?

@canefan so fucking cool aye. We are just past the cusp of a sea change in tech, knowledge and ambition. Imagine if govts had pulled finger with legit funding earlier, rather than leaving it to the private sector. Although in saying that these guys have a good relationship with NASA no?

Very much so. Just watched Elon talking about the co-design roll NASA took on. Certainly wouldn’t be a success without them.

The key is SpaceX is not acting like a normal contractor like Boeing, and sucking at the tax payer teat. They are actively trying to reduce launch costs.

@Kirwan cost-plus is a wonderful thing until you realise there's fuck all in the way of efficiency to be had

Hopefully now we see some kind of acceleration toward the lunar programs and unmanned Mars rockets.

Get the feeling we're going to need Small Modular Reactor tech to come along and help power any Lunar/Martian colony tho.

    Stuff

Docking went smooth. That vehicle looks quite smart, much more refined than NASA ships of old

Loved watching the retro rockets firing as the computer brought it in.

Quoted as something like 30 buttons and touch screens versus the Space Shuttle's 2000 switches and circuit breakers

Not even the ones of old, look at what SpaceX competitors are throwing together. Switches everywhere.
