    21 Folau Fakatava
    22 Josh Ioane
    23 Rob Thompson

Unavailable due to injury: Liam Squire (knee), Waisake Naholo (knee), Aaron Smith (ankle)

Head Coach, Aaron Mauger, has named an experienced side with 74-game veteran lock, Tom Franklin, gaining his second run on start for the season and Marty Banks again will steer the ship at 10. An injury to Waisake Naholo gives speedster and local crowd favourite Matt Faddes an opportunity to display his skills. A strong bench, including All Blacks Elliot Dixon and Jackson Hemopo, features the exciting, young halfback Folau Fakatava and midfielder Rob Thompson, who is back after a six-week injury layoff.

The Hurricanes coaches have completely lost it. Now Jordie at 13 again. It's round 8 and this is the 4th position he'll be playing in. If Matt Proctor is fit, he should play at 13. 🤦♂

It's almost as if they want to jeopardise his ability to play for the All Blacks.

Time to write this season off. Forwards are too small, BB is playing like a lil bitch and the backs are impodent against a proper defence. Wish I'd recorded more games from 2015 (not the final Highlander bastards) and 2016 to take the sting off. Unfortunately it appears Red Peak's biggest fan was actually right about this season.

I'm so over Plumtree and his pathetic selections - we should be doing better but this idiot keeps picking the same players and expects different results.

    • Blackwell tries hard but is too small for a lock - how many games will it take to sink into Plumtree's noggin?
    • Prinsep really is ineffective at this level - they must have something against Ben Nicholas, surely he is a better no8 than Prinsep.
    • Lam is horrible on defence and only looks good going forward - the Crusaders showed once again that Lam is useless when it comes to the crunch, average under the high ball and clueless when he is on the back foot.

@Canes4life I blame Jason Holland for the stupid stuff that is going on in the backline. He's never been great in his selections from what I've seen from U18, NZ Schools etc etc as well.

Although, I wonder whether there have been any messages from the ABs selectors about Jordie playing multiple positions.

Lam really is a flat-track bully isn't he? Good thing the AB selectors recognised this.

@Stargazer I don't see the point either in having Holland and Spencer on the books. Get rid of Holland and while they are at it they need to release Cron and Watt aswell - we need a fresh perspective in the forwards.

Going back to Holland, all the Canes seem to have in their arsenal is kicking the ball back to the opposition. In 2015/16 when they were playing vintage rugby the Canes almost ran the ball from anywhere. Now all they do is kick the bloody pill away at almost every opportunity - it just seems like they are trying to be too safe - unfortunately playing it safe isn't in the Canes DNA.

I feel for JB, he is young and probably just wants to nail down one position, however these twits are hellbent on ruining any confidence the young fella has by chopping and changing him every week.

Tana has passed on his idiotic selection tendencies from the Blues.

Was really surprised the Canes signed Prinsep, one of those players who probably puts up awesome numbers in the gym but lacks a bit of hardness. Watching him at club level you always noticed him (but not for his playing ability).

I would have expected Bedwell-Curtis to get more starts this year? I was a bit disappointed that the Crusaders let him go and then signed Tom Sanders.

Agree about Lam, He let in 2 tries on the weekend with his terrible defense.

@SammyC Tom Sanders was already signed, last year. He's just injured all the time.

Yeah I know that, I worded my post wrong. The timing is irrelevant to me though ....I thought it was a shit decision to sign him and then have to release bedwell-Curtis

@pukunui I'd expect TJP (except the goal kicking).

Pretty handy bench that, but fear we've conceded the game already with the double strike of Hammington-Li.
