Bummer he couldn't finish his career on his own terms. Had a pretty decent career RWC win and 60 tests, a Super rugby win (?) with the Evil Empire, the Highlanders, and of course the highlight of his career playing for the Magpies.

His Highlander years probably went under the radar a bit, but his two years there were probably two of his better Super Rugby seasons.

I have a feeling that most fans don't even know he played for them.

His Highlanders play got him into the ABs.

@Magpie_in_aus I don’t know why you’d add the biggest regret of his life to this thread of celebration. 😉

Out of interest does anyone know how their player insurance works. Like he would have missed a couple of million over the next 3-4 years playing in Japan/France. Im assuming ACC doesn't fit the bill of future potential earnings and their insurance may.

Im sure all they would have to prove is intent and compare contracts to other 50-70 game AB's plying their trade overseas.

My favorite memory was at school playing a team all yelling 'smash the fullback' when he was about 15. He then stepped their whole team from 80 out and scored.I don't think I ever had breakfast with him the day after an AB's game so not much chop of a story.

@Magpie_in_aus He really did wind up playing for the ultimate poachers - first Lindersfarme and then the Crusaders. Holy shit, he’s actually been a villain all this time.

He had a weird old career. His comeback after being dropped from the RWC was one of the more pleasant surprises in recent times. As others have said Highlanders and early AB Dagg was by far the best version of him.

Just a shame we never got to see him sport the 10 jersey, oh well I hope he gets all the Advanced Hair Studios money going...

    Played 66 tests, 60 wins, 2 draws, 4 losses.

Never lost to Australia, Ireland or France.

2 vs South Africa, 1 each vs England and the BIL.

Every AB finishes their career having never lost to Ireland. I mean they’ve never beaten us. At least not since I last checked the stats round about the 4th November 2016.

Beautiful ball-runner, one of the most elusive we’ve seen. Super memories, thank you Israel.

Bummer of a way to have to leave Rugby Izzy, loved just about everything you did on the paddock from the Haka to scoring tries that shouldn't have been scored. Enjoy family time
