@Hooroo I find cutting out the carbs is hard, even harder in the winter when you want something hearty. Doesn't help that I love pasta rice and noodles 😥

Yeah, I imagine it will be hard and it's too early to tell how hard but I am doing ok so far.

    It's harder knowing I'm essentially 132 KG's

@Hooroo my 2c is to drink heaps of water and have a decent crack at portion control. Could also give the intermittent fasting a hoon - quite a few guys on the fern are doing variations of it with great success. I'm pretty much dry these days aside from the odd beer when out for dinner or at a party/gig. When I cut drinking it took a few months for things to really pick up speed around weight/fat loss. Apparently you're body/metabolism takes several weeks to realise you are actually not going to be drinking anymore!!

You could also check out food apps etc as a way to get some visibility on intake or mix of carbs/fats/protein etc? In my less disciplined days I never wanted to actually confront the volume (and type) of food I was eating. I'd just go la la la la as I smashed another pack of chips lol.

Any of the above on top of gym training will really get things moving - if you are adding muscle with your training don't get worried if you seem to hit a weight plateau - at that point looking at body shape can be a good indicator of gains.

Cheers for tips mate. I am doing ok on portion control I think. This morning was a celery stick, half an apple, half a banana and half a pear with a hunk of fresh ginger in the blender with a cup of water. Really love the flavour and I won't eat again until lunch time.

Lunch is a Sirloin (small) steak, 6 olives, a small bit of feta and 5 cheery tomatoes. Dinner is soup. 🙂

Compared to what I was eating, that is A LOT less 🙂

@Hooroo Google up some ultra low carb or keto meal alternatives. Cauliflower pizza and cauliflower rice are actually bloody tasty, have heard zucchini noodles also work well.

Zucchini noodles are AWESOME!! Do like cauliflower rice too but never been a fan of Pizza.

I will do that though, thanks as I know my tolerance for what I am currently eating will wane and I will need food inspiration.

    Thanks again

@Hooroo tbh that doesn't seem like a lot of kai so I reckon you are tracking well. Only thing that could be missing from your shake is some protein? maybe add in a bit of yoghurt or something? I think there is still agreement that you feel fuller if you have carbs/fat/protein, rather than just one of those (even if it's all veges or good stuff).

Even though I am having feta I want to avoid artificial stuff in the short term like powders etc. The stocks I make for soup are from scratch and I like trying to eat like that which is the total opposite of the dross I have eaten for the past year. (Two weeks ago, for lunch, at work I had KFC twice, fish and chips once and pizza once all in the same week..... FAT BASTARD!!!)

Wow! When I started this thread I was 118.3kg.

I have had a prick of a 2018. Work was just too full on and I did next to no exercise for the year apart from the very odd game of golf and ate and drank what I pleased.

I weighed in Saturday at 131.9kg!!!!

I have watched my mate lose 10 kg over three months with the ole "nothing white" diet. Essentially a no bread, spuds, rice, pasta/noodles diet and it is really noticeable on him. But he kept having booze. I am cutting the booze out for the beginning.

2 days in and I'm not crying yet. (and feeling remarkably fresh due to the number of veges and fruit I have had)

I'm too fat to run at the moment so was going to re-join the gym this week but true-love has suggested I do "Gym@FarmWork.com" for a week and then join as there is quite a few high energy small jobs that need to be done around the place.

Anyway, let's see how I go.

The intermittent fasting has helped me during periods I may have gotten a tiny bit tubby, I'm mates with you on FB and I know you're a bit of a foodie so perhaps that is worth a go ? it does mean you can't eat til about 12 but during an 8-9 hour period you can go pretty nuts ( well within reason ) and enjoy a feed while losing weight.

Cheers. That may be phase two. I don't want to go to a drastic change like that in case I don't have the mental fortitude and give up. The past few days of doing what I am doing hasn't been too taxing mentally

It can be tough essentially waiting til 12ish for your first feed but I find black coffee is my best mate during those periods ( also good to ensure good morning bowel movements )

For me personally heaps easier to cope during the week provided I keep busy with work ( and the fern during the quiet periods haha )

Edit: I'm a spring keto-er so I'm all over the low carb high fat

Salt and chilli chicken cauliflower rice is my fave.... I make this whilst my husband waits for his chinese take out and I am never jealous at all...

It changes everytime I make it but basically..

Wok action-Brown chicken in buttttttterrr when almost cooked, add some finely diced onion, minced garlic and sliced chilli's, duno what sort I'm growing they are red and hot if that helps... throw in Cauliflower (blitzed/grated) get it all combined. Sometimes soy sauce.
Dry mix is, salt, pinch of Chinese 5 spice, NO SUGAR OR SWEETENERS.
I've added the dry mix at various stages and it's always the same to me.

Quick and easy cauliflower. God I love cauliflower. Creamed cauliflower is a good one too....

As good a thread as any to enquire......

Recently got both my boys into Sushi, one has always loved it, second has finally gotten on the bandwagon which makes treat day with Dad easier taking them both to one place instead of constant fights as to where we are going.

The St Pierres jingle would have you believe that Sushi is healthy but is it ? Lots of carby rice and it's held together by some sugary type substance.

I can easily demolish two sushis of the day no probs but am dubious as to how good it actually is for you. Freshly made is always extremely tasty though.

That sounds fantastic. The cauliflower goes in the wok raw and just lightly sautéed??

Do you use breast or thigh meat?

@Hooroo breast as its convenient for a quick meal. And yes sautée!! Sometimes it all sweats a bit - sorry can't think of a more cheffy word but thats where the magic happens.
My fave go-to low carb hacks are iceburg lettuce as wraps or burger buns and Courgetti. Never bother with fake pizza bases as not a huge pizza fan anyway.

I don't think I genuinely loved sushi til my mid 30's but by crikey its so good especially topped in loads of wasabi.

St Pierres promote it as being healthy though which as I suspected isn't entirely accurate.
