Julian Assange arrested

Excellent. This creep has effectively done seven years in jail and now he has to go and face his bail jumping charges and then onto an orange jumpsuit and life in Leavenworth .
It’ll be interesting over the next few days watching people who have piled onto #metoo tie themselves in knots defending and alleged rapist .

I was always amused how so many "progressive" activists and social justice warriors gave Assange a free get-out-of-jail card because of his political leanings.
Been reported the Swedish prosecutors are under pressure to re-open the rape allegations against him. Good, Let him face trial in an open court.

I thought that they had to drop charges after the statute of limitations had run out, I checked though and it expires in 2020. It'd be awesome if he was convicted of rape then after that sentence spent the rest of his live in Leavenworth.
There's some interesting parallels between the stains that have supported him and demonised his victims and the fools that bought all the Russiagate nonsense. They decided what they believe to be true and then created a narrative around it, I've read plenty of activist types saying the prosecutor who told the woman to press charges was bent and politically motivated when they really didn't have a clue what they were talking about but they was the established narrative from their side and they were happy to buy into it without question
One of his victims is unable to work and lives in hiding due to the harassment from his supporters which seems a bit out of step with #metoo and #believewomen .So stoked to see him in jail , all that time in hiding for nothing.
I'm going to keep an eye on this thread for the lols, already his fanbois are bending the truth

What are the chances the US is behind this and he eventually ends up there?
Depends on which conspiracy theorist you read, I guess.
At the end of the day, the only clear fact is that he is a fugitive from a rape charge to be faced in Sweden.

Some of the reaction is plain bonkers. According to a leading UK lawyer - senior barrister Geoffrey Robinson, QC - Assange will be extradited to the US which will pave the way for the editors of UK newspapers , like The Guardian, to be extradited to the US and jailed on Trump's say so.....
"If they get away with extraditing Julian Assange they could extradite Alan Rusbridger, and the editors and journalists from the Guardian, and put them inside in America for a very long time."
Some of the more deranged activists really aren't having a good week. Mueller, evidence emerging of US intelligence illegally spying on Trump's campaign and now Assange.
-
@jegga there's already some truth bending going on in your post regarding Russia.
I totally get that it is quite rich for some with extreme views that supported his work only when it suited them and ignore it when it doesn't but it applies in both directions.
'Russiagate' is not nonsense with regard to participation of some parties (Russia and Assange)
There is no doubt that Russia attempted to influence the US elections AND there is no doubt that Wikileaks participated (even if as a pawn).
Keep those facts clear of any arguments about Trump Inc. collusion.

Heh now that really would be something!

Except nothing has stopped them from asking for that extradition already and they haven't done so. Any follow on charges would have to be after initial charges are proven.

It wouldn't happen as under the UK-US treaty, extradition can only occur if the activity is an illegal one in both the UK & the US. I posted it as an example of people making arses of themselves when ity comes to Assange - in this case a senior barrister who seems to have exposed himself as an idiot.
He's been charged with computer hacking in the US and not for exposing or publishing secrets.
-
@Victor-Meldrew 'Heh' is my laugh. I think its funny people thought that and something funnier would be Trump actually having the ability to extradite Guardian journalists for being as shit as they are.
-
The Guardian and The Daily Mail are two cheeks of the same arse IMHO. Poor checking of facts, misleading headlines and an agenda of whipping up outrage.

I’m of two minds. On the one hand, he needs to be released. He’s doing what any indpendent news organization would have done. On the other hand, I wished that he confronted these charges head-on in a court of law years ago. He’s been a political prisoner for years, he’s already been sentenced and served time.

I was, you have misread my point or I wasn't clear enough.
The people who wanted to believe Russiagate were happy to believe any evidence that supported the theory and decided Mueller was a great american despite probably never having heard of him before he was appointed .
The people who wanted to believe the charges against Assange were bogus were happy to believe any evidence that supported that and that Marrianne Ny was corrupt and incompetent despite never having heard of her before she decided to lay charges against Assange.
Thats the parallel I was referring to, people who want to buy into these things exhibit some extreme cognitive dissonence .
Assange is an amoral creep, I'm glad those women might actually get justice. I see theres losers on the standard thread dismissing the rape charges as trumped up

Political prisoner? Thats a stretch , he was wanted on two charges of rape.
Sentenced and served time? That was his choice , he jumped bail to avoid trial.
