They probably need to work on the beer compared to others.

Stuff that for an investment. Looks like they are making something like $150k profit on a $4.5M turnover. That's a blazing 3%. I am highly highly skeptical of any crowdfunding for this sort of thing; bloody Burger Fuel tried it, and their prospectus was 'if you like burgers, give us money'.
Running a brew pub ain't straightforward and there's shedloads of competition. running a brewery is damn hard work,a nd there's lots of competition. There isn't much money in this.
Anyhoo, good luck to them, but don't expect to make any serious coin from it. Invest for the love ... but there are probably better places to drop you hard earned.

pretty sure ParrotDog did a crowdfunding thing a few years back too

They make some nice brews.
I have been drinking a bit of it (for free) over here as they have tapped into the UK market via NZ Beer Collective (Tuatara, 8 Wired, Yeastie Boys, Nomad, Parrotdog)Selling volume is the key to surviving the crowded market and producing said volume is the challenge. YBs had a few false starts as contract brewers let them down which must have been a real shitter for them as they had secured distribution through Majestic Wines and Waitrose, both of which add up to decent volume.

did you smell the beer before drinking it?
Also, this weekend is GABS in auckland. It's going to be awesome - something like 90 odd beers, and a bunch of food trucks, and places to sit down.

Those days sound great in theory but do any beers really stand out after the first 10 or so ?

eh, if I can try 10-15 beers I'm a super happy camper.
I was going to write a 'post from the future' about the day, filled with joy, unicorns, skittles and haziness (both beer and eyesight). You get the picture though.
I've taught my lad to troll with 'all beers taste pretty much the same to me'. Would be gold to put on a T shirt for the weekend

A mate of mine is a massive beer piston wristed gibbon and when he was rather hammered we substituted his Panhead Stout for Speights old dark.
He frowned but didn't seem to notice.
Panhead Stout is absolutely outstanding but Speights Old Dark is not without it's merits, certainly compared to Speights Gold.

Yep. Compared to you I am a beer piston wristed gibbon but compared to real beer piston wristed gibbons I am a philistine.

Old Dark is actually a really good beer. When hammered ...
I've always had a soft spot for it. Also love Coopers Stout. $5.49 for a 750ml from Countdown. How good ? fucken awesome, especially this time of year......

i had a massive session on it at uni once, drinking it by the jug.
i spent the entire next day on the toilet. It tore my guts to pieces.

Speights was famous for that back at uni. The gold medal ale was better than metamucil
