Every now and again I have to remind myself the Chillis were actually a fucken good band back in the day ( before they released singles with "California" as every second word )......also worth nothing guitarist John Frusciante was 19 years old when they did this tune.

    Wicked shit.

When my old dear died 5 years ago I got a handful of CDs that had belonged to my Dad until he passed. All of them completely forgettable but you know how it is, you can’t bring yourself to chuck them out.

Christopher Cross’s Sailing was one of them. Never listened to it until this evening. Most songs are MoR cludge, inoffensive but in no way special. But fark me if it doesn’t have some tremendous lead breaks on it. The first track has a Jay Graydon lead break that is maybe better than his one in Peg. There’s a great Larry Carlton break on track 2 and the last track has some very nice work from Eric Johnson that I now know was 7 years before Tones.

Turns out my old man is still teaching me stuff 19 years after he died. Life, huh?

There's no way that Waters and Mason played the rhythm section on The Wall. Gilmour is probably the only one who's on the album. Even the trademark Waters bassline is doubtful.

The bassline at the start of Comfortably Numb is way too warm and smooth to be Waters.

Interesting theory. For all Waters undoubted talent as a Rock star being an amazing bassist isn't one of them. Mason did some pretty cool drumming in the live in Pompeii album though.

I'm not sure what it is about Gilmour, a lot of his stuff is not technically hard to play as such but ask anyone to go out there and replicate his sound and feel and no one can. That's what makes him a guitar god, probably in my top ten.

    Where did that come from?

It's a well-known fact that Jeff Porcaro played the drums on "Mother" as Mason couldn't get his head around the time-signature changes.

Just finished Mick Walls book about Black Sabbath, it’s a good read .
Anyway they point out about 80% of thin Lizzy live and dangerous was done in the studio which isn’t all that surprising.

@jegga There are conflicting stories about how much overdubbing was done.

Plenty of classic and more modern "live" albums contain a lot of studio overdubbing too.

It apparently inspired a wave of live albums that were similarly overdubbed . The book gives a great rundown on how the studios screwed over bands and squeezed every last cent out of them before dumping them .
Tony Iommi doesn’t come out of the book well , Dio is probably the only one who does

Awful , just like her father . Tony Iommi fucked her when she was a teenager and wouldn’t leave his wife for her so she spent a lot of time making his life miserable.
Before liposuction came along she was apparently a porker too.
