First time I had done anything like that. The new girlfriend wanted to do something together so signed up. At the last session we went for Max for 1 rep. I was aiming for somewhere around 100 kg but I ended up doing 152.5kg. I am quite chuffed with myself.

I am not a fit person by any stretch of the imagination and I have always thought I was a weak guy for my size. I am short and almost as heavy as I am tall. The new partner has lost 60kg so far and plenty more to go so I am jumping on that journey with her. Going to focus more on fitness/cardio mainly but keen to learn how to do Powerlifting squat.

@mikedogz cher cher. Keep it up mate. Even if your focus is on cardio, deadlifts are a great all body movement and fat burner.

nice work dude! that is a solid lift for getting into it new. If you are short you are likely to have good levers for powerlifting. Longer arms and short legs seems pretty good for deads πŸ™‚

Just don't mention that spanish word 'cardio' to any of the powerlifters you run into... bad etiquette lol

@Paekakboyz yeah I was confused I thought man I've been doing power lifting for 18months now have I been missing a type of lift. Had to Google what cardio was. I thought cardio was when we had to do 5x10.

Good work on getting in the mix. It's crazy what you can do for a 1rm. My gf is about 52kg and can deadlift 2x BW. I just got to 2x BW mainly due to the fact I thought it was easier to get stronger rather than eat less....

Best place to learn technique is probably go watch westside barbell on Netflix.

    • not actually best place but interesting doco

Actually follow stefi Cohen on Instagram and follow her YouTube. She's a top level lifter with multi world record holder and has a Doctorate in Physio so less bro science.

*assume she's juiced to the eye balls but still a top level athlete competing against other juiced up athletes

@Magpie_in_aus her content is fucking awesome. And highly recommend Omar Isuf as well - although he's more all-round lifting rather than P/L.

Lol, I’ve never heard anyone except gym w**kers use the term β€œcardio” πŸ™‚

Most people just go for a run, bike or swim and don’t need to call it anything else.

    Losing 60kg is bloody impressive
