I'd prefer an NZR approval process where you have to show a lack of genuine alternatives,

I think this is already in place as I believe the Highlanders had to go through that process for signing James Haskell.

@Cyclops really. I’m all for having the best team.

And some wonder why many on this board give Canterbury and Crusaders fans a hard time.

Since when do "those" ferners need a reason to give Canterbury and Crusaders fans a hard time? 🤭

    Maybe they have longer memories?

Need to let that go A few idiots don't judge everyone by a few.

Yep, I’m not saying it’s true of all Cantabs at all.

Having said that, this smells like, (my guess) ‘we’re losing Sam Whitelock for a year, so why can’t we sign a similar replacement?’

In other words, we might not win, waaaaah.

The answer should be ‘develop your own local replacements or poach from the other provinces and super bases like you have been doing’.

Maybe its just being smart and staying ahead of the Competition the poaching allegation can be aimed at all the franchises its the way of professional sport these days.
Why not get talent to the most successful franchise in SR History and create better players helps the ABs as well.

The poaching comment should have had a fishing pole beside it. I have no problem with how the Saders recruit any NZ eligible player and I understand why ppl would go there.

You could almost apply this situation in reverse too. The Hurricanes have JGB and could argue that every other Super Rugby team should be forced to find room for an equivalent player of his quality in their squad!

WOW hopefully not anyway we have one maybe a worse player Brett Cameron so we are doing our bit for your theory.

I'm pretty surprised the Crusaders let Mitch Hunt escape south. Mitch probably isn't the greatest first five to play the game, but as a second string Super first-five he's pretty decent.

I'll be interested to see who they replace him with.

@chchfanatic I think someone must have been talking rubbish as I’ve heard no leaks. Surely it would’ve got out by now. I mentioned it to my source and he never said no , but I think it’s not true.

@Stargazer haha I didn’t realise I’d done that. Too early in the morning. Talking about the rumour I heard about the saracens player. I don’t think it’s true. But my source never denied it.

    @chchfanatic

Someone on insta showed the team sheet with the names blacked out saying that the only ‘talking point’ was the choice of captain.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if the Crusaders go for co-captains, a non-frontrow forward (maybe Douglas) and a back (maybe Havili, who was the Crusaders' vice-captain when Crotty got injured in the Finals and has been Ta$man's captain for two seasons).

@Stargazer Havili would make sense - he's a nailed on starter. Isn't he a member of their leadership group now?

Probably a forward - experienced, nailed on starter, who will play lots of minutes - Taylor, Barrett or Douglas.

Douglas played an average of less than 60 minutes per match this year so he might not be in the frame under that criteria. Although with Taufua gone he might get extended game time.
