Isnt there a 2 day game vs Victoria coming up?

Be interesting which bowlers play in that one given workload and injury.

@KiwiMurph I'd guess all of Southee, Wagner and de Grandhomme will sit it out.

Be interesting to see who opens the batting - I'd be somewhat inclined to go with Raval and whomever his potential replacement would be - Blundell, Nicholls or BJ.

Tom Latham could bat at 5.

I’ve seen this reported but have had no luck finding out where this is being played.

Seems to be the best approach. Feels like it's our batsmen that need the most work so watch as we lose the toss and spend a day and a half in the field.

If you are nearby perhaps you could pop in and drop something off for the players

Day 1 they will as people have been planning this since the game was announced. Day 2? Depends a lot on Day 1!

Perth did show that 2 tests against England with Archer is no preparation for Australia if you play them on puddings. And it was a nice touch on a bouncy pitch with uneven bounce to open the bowling in the 2nd innings with 2 x sub-130km/h bowlers.

yes I am looking forward to going to Day 1 and 2 of the test, after Perth it will likely be another 30 years before we get a second invite, unless of course we are competitive and that it is profitable in a big way over multiple days.

..hopefully I haven't witnessed 2 NZ innings during the 2 days I am there

Ok so a bit more detail on this 2 day match hidden in article

"Boult expects to get through "three to four" spells in a two-day match against a Victorian XI at Melbourne's Scotch College starting on Friday"

Well we're on track to break the record for both attendance on day 1 and attendance across the first 4 days for a non-Ashes Boxing Day test, so we'll tick the profitability boxes.

@Cyclops given how highly the Indian tours are regarded that would be impressive if we do break it, so I hope it is accurate. That will buy the locals enough sandpaper to last them a few more series against the saffas..

I was there 32 years ago with plenty of whanau and will never forget it. Putting aside the end, day 5 was a brilliant day of cricket from NZ.

Sure I cried after we didn’t win (I was 10) and refused to move from the MCG bench seats.

Eventually I got up and I’ll never forget my uncle saying to me as we made the long walk to the MCG car park, “boy, we’ll get them next time”.

And sure enough my uncle proved to be prophetic because we knocked over the Aussies in a thriller ODI in Perth 😎

Was that the one run win? Dipak brilliant one handed overhead catch on the boundary, Hadlee bowled out early and had to bowl the last ball of his spell again after a no ball (would have been a dot as he beat a play and miss by Steve Waugh) and then getting Waugh to edge one to the keeper of the rebowled ball, Bracewell grabbing the skyed catch in covers off the last ball?

    Don't remember it at all...

Your agging thread seems to be a bit off if you remember all that, although I'm not sure sports results count. Do you know where your car keys are?

I can remember shit from 30 years ago. What I had for breakfast ...

As for the keys: no idea. Which is a worry as I'm sitting in the car wondering how to start it ...
