I wouldn't gave thought forgetting sarah Marshall and knocked up would be called rom coms but they were pretty funny.

Love and relationships are the key theme to both. One got dumped, can't get over her, meets new girl who just might be Ms Right. Other is building a relationship after a one night stand goes awry and learning that opposites can make it work. Plus both have a happy ending/happy for now.

Sorry mate, romcoms.
-

Love Actually, Notting Hill, The Philadelphia Story, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Knocked Up, 10 things I hate about you, Crazy, Stupid Love, Wedding Crashers, Bridget Jones's Diary, The Princess Bride all in my dvd collection.

I was going to suggest Say Anything and 500 Days of Summer but there's not too much com in them I guess - maybe Say Anything more than 500.
-

Final day of the year pedantry - tick.
-

haha i hate that woman's movies, but it pales in to insignificance next to your loathing of her!

And no TR, i don't even think she's hot
-

Anybody see Spotlight yet?

(It's about the true story Catholic pedophile abuse scandal in Boston.)

Micheal Keaton has been having a very good comeback year, another gem for him. Funnily enough, the 2nd starring role for him in a "newspaper" movie, and this one is a lot better than the earlier Ron Howard film "The Paper" (1994) although that one is a guilty pleasure for me

One of the best reviewed films of the year (97% at RT), probably a little too lavish for my taste, but then newspaper critics seem to get bigger erections than usual for "newspaper" movies that get the small details correct that most audiences don't give a rats' ass, because it's about "them" and their "craft." Still, an excellent movie. Getting widely compared to "All the President's Men," and for good reason.

And in an incestuous way, whereas ATPM featured editor Ben Bradlee (Washington Post) as one of the main supporting characters (played by Jason Robards), this one has his kid Ben Bradlee Jr. (Boston Globe) as one of the main support actors (played by Mad Men's John Slattery). Bradlee wrote my fave book of the past couple years ("The Kid") so I was a little worried he was going to be the fall-guy in this suspense story.

Script, dialogue, pacing, suspense, acting all top notch, although Mark Ruffalo for my money needs to dial it down just a touch. He seemed a little too tightly wound in a way that wasn't fully explored.

I'll give it a 8.5/10. definitely worth seeing, but not necessarily on a big screen, a DVD rental will do the trick without losing much impact.

If the best newspaper flicks are Citizen Kane, Sweet Smell of Success, The Big Circus (a.k.a. Ace in the Hole), Park Row (Samuel Fuller's fave film he ever directed), Deadline USA and the aforementioned All the President's Men (...any others I can think of off the top of my head...?), I'd say it belongs in that sort of select company.
-

Maybe , if they keep up the stealth angle of rom coms I can tolerate them . I'm guessing you'd include bridesmaids in there?

The more I think about love actually the more appalling I remember it being , especially for Laura Linneys character . Let's be honest if you found out your mate was sitting at home watching videos of the woman you just married and coming around to your house late at night to tell her he will wait till she leaves you he'd be looking at some extensive dental work . -

Having seen the trailer for the new Captain America movie, and thinking it looked pretty bad ass, i thought i should watch the first two (I'm not much of a Captain America fan).

The first one was okay, pretty standard fare really, but i can see why i skipped it all this time.

But The Winter Soldier is fucking fantastic, i reckon it's just about the best of the "Avengers" movies, and if Civil War is as good as it looks (and the story line promises to be given the comics) then CA will easily be the best franchise out of all of them, going way past Iron Man (movies really just carried by RDJ being smugly entertaining).

Should probably watch the 2nd Avengers movie at some point.
-

Along with Iron Man, Captain America is easily my favouriste 'Avenger' ( Thor is my least, girlie ass ex home and away git)

The 2nd Avengers movie isnt nearly as good as the original, no doubt mostly due to the whole 'its so fucken cool all the avengers are together in one movie' vibe.
-

If you look up career suicide in the dictionary you will find a picture of her. Shes just pissed off so many co stars, producers etc its not funny.

Shes known in the biz to be 'hard to work with' along with her mom/manager.

I used to have a thing for her back in the day when she was in Roswell ( i um used to watch it with um an ex girl friend)
-

I think CA is probably the only one I actually read comic books for as a kid, not sure why, but I did.

Have yet to watch WS, but might give it a crack, I've not thought alot of the Avengers movies TBH, just too much I think?
-

I used to do the same - although Heigel was my least favourite of the 3 lead females.

Winter Soldier is my favourite Marvel too. In saying that I didn't mind the 2nd Avengers, it was never going to not live up to the hype ... and I just looked at it as switch your brain entertainment and on that level I enjoyed it.

In Star Wars news, it is about 20m off passing Avatar for the biggest US box office but missed out on taking the 2015 record off Jurassic World by $300k ... although TBF JW had a few months to make that total. $1.5B worldwide so far. Yes, I have a bit of time on my hands at the moment.
-

Didn't i read Star Wars doesn't open in China until Feb? Which means they still get to write a few more records then?
