The Barossa Shiraz '02 is getting low at Meldrew Towers.
If the local wine shippers have run out, I might have to stock up on Lagavulin.
Or Listerine if I just want the taste.
I used to really like the
ListerineLagavulin but now something a little less astringent appeals more. I have acquired a taste for Aberlour - have you tried that? Not as soft as some, but nowhere near as antiseptic as an Islay malt. -
@dogmeat @taniwharugby Absolute figures I think area t the present time, less revealing than trends. However accuracy of data there is the thing.

Drink about 2 bottles of whisky a year. something like Aberlour during the year and something a bit different/exotic at Christmas.
Last Christmas was Auchentoshan Three Wood Single Malt. 1/3 of bottle left.

Interesting update 63% of those hospitalised in ICU in UK are overweight (pretty much the national profile?)
Makes you want to ask how many Italian/Spanish deaths are due to smoking?
In one of the posts above there was a link to some stats and the smoking ones for the deaths in China were telling. The difference between male and female deaths was pretty closely correlated to the smoking stats between the sexes.

@Victor-Meldrew I have a similar scotch consumption to you. I'd like to try the Auchentoshan sometime but I already have about two years of Scottish wine to get through. Mind you this lockdown might accelerate things.

I'm not sacrificing my early 2000's Bordeaux. Fuck that

The sort of timescales we keep hearing about are doing my head in

@Victor-Meldrew shows the tech, smarts and willingness is there - they say from scratch but surely they'll have access to plans - even if it's the stuff others have shared online already which was pissing off those medical companies! Even though stuff like this is awesome I can't help but get a bit cynical about the self promotion bit.

You've already shown remarkable restraint

They're all working together. Read that Dyson offered his filter & motor tech patent-free to the other initiatives to use. Firms like McLaren, Prodrive & Williams are providing engineering expertise to people who need it, and the likes of Nissan & Honda offering their sterile paintshops for assembly.
There's parallel work going on ramping up production of existing designs with parts being fabricated all over the place.

It's really cool. And completely blows out of the water any projections people make about what this will look like in a month or two. Things are moving really really fast.

Early days and there's gonna be loads of deaths to come and it could all go tits-up, but some of the stuff being done in the UK to meet the peak of the disease is seriously impressive. 500,000 health volunteers with 24 hours is an insane number.
Been some good news today.

I'm fine with no anonymous giving when it comes to this stuff. If companies and/or people are pulling out all the stops to get shit done then they deserve the accolades and the benefits to their brand that come with that

@Victor-Meldrew now that's the good stuff! Opening up the patents and sharing facilities.
-
@No-Quarter totally fine with them sharing what they are helping with, just find the (inevitable?) humble brag/marketing bit a tad meh. Well aware that's molehills vs mountains in terms of the overall positive impact of this cross-business cooperation.

Tourism, hospitality and travel now extends to retail, with a large Group standing down workers and stating it will cease rental payments.
