@canefan is she a younger teacher by chance? Not to knock the older tech savvy folks but this will be an immense challenge for a lot of teachers who just aren't that into tech or educating kids remotely. That's a different issue to those raised in the shared article, but a significant factor imo. Just because we got fibre to schools doesn't mean it's imparted skills to all and sundry.

@Paekakboyz older teacher far more conscientious. Master CFs teacher is a young guy so no surprises there

Haven't even heard from Master CFs teacher. Fucker is probably off surfing
I've been super impressed with our local school. They've swung into onine learning, plenty of video catchups with the kids, online learning, as well as other (real life) stuff. Has been remarkably seamless.
Not as good as in the flesh, but fair play they've really stepped up and delivered.
We're paying exorbitant private school fees for basic, basic shit that takes maybe an hour a day, and parents have received an email from the rector stating there won't be any flexibility around fees. We're wondering how we react to this. We'll wait and see what the online learning package is like when T2 starts before reacting, but it's extremely disappointing that more than one friend's kids' public school online learning seems to drastically out-strip what we were given at the end of T1. Presumably private schools feel they're immune to the effects of C-19, but i think they'll get the message when the financial squeeze causes a role drop and/or a few parents start complaining about the online offering.

I reckon my kids get the best 1-1 teaching at school, or they think it is ok to ask me a million questions a day about thier schoolwork that they wouldnt ask thier teacher...
-
@taniwharugby I reckon you're getting trolled bro

@Kirwan It's not having a foot in both camps at all. It is what teachers are complaining about a child care facility.
Pretty straightforward.
If you can work from home do so and in this case the kids stay home.
If you really have to go to work (as opposed to want to) and there is no alternative child minder available then send kids up to Year 10 to school.Year 10 because under 14 kids can't be left alone without adult supervision.
It's not a foot in both camps at all. Its a practical step to allow those working parents who could return to work under L3 but cannot WFH to get back in employment.
The issue isn't the regulations its people trying to muddy or bend them.
and fucking teachers who complain should just shut the fuck up. Yes its not "proper" teaching but FFS you're still getting paid when lots aren't. Do what's necessary for the greater good you entitled gob-shites.
I had to send out letters to most of my staff asking for a 10% pay cut yesterday. The ones that didn't get a letter I had a very tough conversation with. "Oh I don't want to be a glorified child minder" Oxygen thieves.
-
Agree completely that teachers should shut up, I have the same opinions for some workers I know about complaining about having to go back to full hours. Be happy you still have a job.
The foot in both camps comment is directed at schools are open, but only send them if you have to. Is it safe or not?
If it's not safe, keep the schools closed. IMO, having them mostly open is the same as having them fully open. There is a lack of clarity here, at least about safety.

seems to be a disparity in what different schools/teachers are currently providing too.
I know alot of teachers, some are embracing this and finding new things to teach children, whereas I know some who have done pretty much jack shit, and are keen for lockdown to continue....

Yep. Luckily, both my kids teachers have been excellent. But that does seem to be based on individual work ethic as opposed to a coordinated response.
-
@Kirwan My bad. I guess they think schools are a risk factor and want to limit that risk.
if everyone follows the rules classes should be a very small discrete bubble. As opposed to the situation if they opened carte blanche.
So in the interests of getting as many back to work as possible they are prepared to take a small risk but not open it right up especially with older kids who by the nature of the way they are schooled would have way more contacts on any given day.

My boy's teacher is an Asian guy in his 30s that does all of the IT for the school, so he's been absolutely on point from the get-go with the online learning. Daily video's, lots of ideas on activities to do etc. Been really good, but I can imagine some less tech savvy teacher's really struggling with it.

@No-Quarter toughest part for me is how they do some stuff, particularly math, I see the answer, can show it how I was taught, but not how they are being taught...I'm sure the way I was taught is still much easier haha

@taniwharugby So if you used the full word you would say mathematic?
