@MajorRage It's all a bit mixed down here. It seems that most are observing common sense but some are being just complete piston wristed gibbons. A pub on the quay in Exeter opened up a take away service. Result: People hanging round, getting pissed and then pissing in the pub seating areas. Broken bottles and glasses all over the place, litter everywhere and all round rowdy behaviour. So pub closes. Social distancing? Not much. On the flip side, we went down to Slapton Sands (where the D Day rehearsals got an almighty pummelling) and it was all pretty cool. Not too busy, no-one infringing on anyone else's space. The noticeable difference was age really.
They'll label it Coronavirus misbehavior but let's tell it like it is
Sun's out, scum's out

I read somewhere today in regard to the testing figures that a nasal and mouth swab on one person is being counted as two tests. Still to hit the targets consistently too!

Think that has been debunked. The number is based on test kits used or sent out and they now report testing capacity as a separate number.
As an aside. Ms Meldrew no.1 told me the press reporting on PPE has been quite ignornant & pretty much garbage, e.g.gloves. Some are supplied & counted singly, others as pairs while packs of four gloves are also counted as a single PPE item, dependent on medical procedure.

We have a weird phenomenon happening down here.
Locals telling each other that visitors are everywhere, ignoring lockdown, local beaches are packed, campervans are everywhere, etc, etc.
When we do a drive-by when collecting the shopping, we find the beaches looking deserted and hardly a camper-can in sight. Loads more people at work though. Perhaps it may change this week.

They seem to be taking a whole lot of flak for these testing numbers alright. In reality though, can people not get tests who need them? How many people weren't tested who needed a test is really the number?
Unless of course, the govt wants to test people who don't need them in order to meet some targets ...

You should sell that headline to the media...

I'm sure it's out there somewhere already.

Tis is a good point that seems to be lost generally. Targets or no targets, the people that matter are getting tested. Surely that is the important statistic. I think Boris painted himself into a corner suggesting the target levels which were in themselves pretty meaningless. However it does give the press a number to call him out on.

La Famille Cato have been to a few beaches over the last week and a bit. Shortest journey about 10 minutes, longest (last weekend) about 45 minutes. Most of the visits have been pretty quiet although two of the mem-sahibs popped down to Exmouth about 10 days ago and came straight back. It was heaving with no attempts at social distancing. The pictures from the weekend at Durdle Door were pretty amazing in an awful way. Not my idea of a good beach trip even without the Rona thing.
-
Apparently Brighton was heaving on the weekend also.

How much of the rule breaking do you guys think is down to Cummings? Maybe, I give the UK population too much credit, but did anybody really change their mind about what they would do because of it? I.e was anybody planning to spend Saturday in the garden and instead decided to hit up the beach because "if Cummings can, I can"?
I think those that broke, were going to break it anyway and just answered Cummings as some sort of reason to justify it.

I have a friend in the Sussex Police and he reckons they are having to try and move people on from the beach and the sea front in Brighton. They're getting a lot of stick for it too. Alla bit unpleasant by all accounts

Cummings is a convenient peg to hang your hat on I feel and a peg that should not be there. Poorly handled and left things wide open. But I agree it appears to be mostly used as as an excuse by those who were looking for one. Not giving such people that excuse may have made things somewhat better but in truth we won't know.

Mrs M's son and daughter live in Burgess Hill. They have seen a growing increase in people in parks, etc for 2-3 weeks. Brighton beach was heaving 2 weeks ago when they drove past.

A simpler answer is that people are seeing the lockdown as over, notwithstanding BoJo labouring that it is conditional. It's hard to get British people to understand a nuanced message.
-
@Victor-Meldrew on a similar note - the increase in traffic around here over the past couple or so weeks has been huge. Not long after lockdown we had to go on the M25 and got a photo of a huge stretch with no other vehicles - can't see that happening again. Had to go on it again a couple of weeks ago and it was back to normal.

The A38 between Bodmin & St Austell was almost dead 3 weeks ago. Seen a big and growing increase when collecting the weekly shopping from early May. Think it's mainly people getting back to work.
Tourist places far less of an increase. Have to wait and see what happens this WE.

Interesting article on easing lockdown measures and a increasing the chances of a second wave.
