I have to say being able to get outside Saturday evening, in short sleeves and BBQ a four rib roast while supping a few cleansing ales put this whole Zombie Apocalypse thing into perspective.
I'd had a shit week at work was as tired as I have ever felt in my life but charred, smokey goodness and life is just so, so much better.
Daylight savings is a gooooo0d thing.....

Went out onto Auckland Harbour with Mrs Virgil on a Jet boat, Auckland adventure Jet Boats. Bought a cheap voucher for us both not long before lockdown 2.0. Had to wait a while to use it.
What a blast, hoon around the Waitamate harbour under the busted up Harbour Bridge past the Chelsea Sugar factory. Loved it. This thing could move, hit 55 knots at one stage ( thatβs 100 km for you landlubbers )
Got totally soaked from the fish tailing, drifting etc.
Helped being a beautiful clear sky day as well. Definitely felt like the start of summer ( even if we are month or 2 away still) -

Are you actually a bloke?
I tease because I care.

havent posted in here before
really starting to struggle, the wife works all the time, all weekend...so other than going out for a daily exercise...i spend my weekends sitting around...kind of lonely
i spend my weeks waiting for the weekend thinking it will be fun...and then the weekend waiting for the work week so i can chat to workmates
had to horrible realisation i wouldn't know what i would go and do even if i was allowed to go out...that was depressing
-
@Kiwiwomble - That's no good
You need a hobby
Seriously though - that sucks. Hopefully things will improve for you with the warmer weather (you aren't NH are you?) and give you more options
-
@dogmeat melbourne, i think thats why it hit me...we should ease up in the next month....but i dont actually know what i'll do with my freedom
I did contact a rugby club, asked about their masters team, thats not until next year though, i'll need some time to get fit
-
@Kiwiwomble mate, that's tough.
As someone said, a hobby or club is a good idea. I took up brewing and smoking meat as they are family friendly hobbies. Find something that floats your boat and go for it.
One tip though - action leads to action - so get something scheduled, and get giong early in the day. Exercise? Gym? Early morning bike rides at the weekend? Start making coffee.
Another option that's a bit left field (and without knowing your financial situation) is get a part time job for the weekends. Work in a BBQ store, or pub, or hell selling ice creams on the beach.
Best of luck dude, it's hard. Alternatively, get a sport and booze hobby, and wind up fat and on the couch like the rest of us
-
cheers guys
all good ideas and things ive done earlier, think ive got a bit lazy...and to kind steal a phrase...laziness leads to laziness
got kind of excited about maybe playing sport again, would put the running programme we've been doing to god use

@Kiwiwomble I could lend you my kids for weekends mate, they're driving me fcking nuts...
All the best mate. Not much consolation, but I reckon there would be many folk feeling like you in Melbourne. Such a tough time with the restrictions.
Cycling is a good one to get into - its great for fitness but also takes between 2 and 6 hours depending on how keen you get. And having a goal always helps too. If you're not on Strava, join. Find a training plan and stick to it. Lots of races to train for, real and virtual.
Though golf provides the same time suck with way less effort.
And as others have said, eat and drink heaps too.
Thank fck for the Fern sometimes.

Without getting all new age crystals etc I think we forget in the immortal words of F Dagg esq just how lucky we are
Like most I guess Covid has had its downsides for me too. But mainly through the impact it's had on those around me. Still I'm still alive and kicking, have a job, people around me who put up with me. There's too many who can't say the same.
Find some podcasts you can get into. Go for a long walk. End up at a decent bar where people know you and say hello. Do something to break the routine. Change the habit from negative to positive - even if it means picking up a bad habit.
Life might suck sometimes but it beats the alternative
-
@Kiwiwomble hang in there!π
@dogmeat I love your positivity, the fern's very own Oprah! β€οΈ
@Snowy stop smoking you are ruining your life!Man still no test result here 48hrs on... Getting impatient now, and daughter is the picture of health again, typical! (thankful though!)
-
@R-L I don't smoke - was kidding. Well I smoke fish mostly if that counts.
Good to hear your wee one is all healthy again.

@taniwharugby Friction burns?

Been a bit quiet lately but mainly due to working 12 straight days at the lodge to cover the weekend cleaner. Had a wee bit of Jamesons on Friday to celebrate the end of the marathon - don't remember getting back to my room but it was worth it. Health generally is on the uptick, and mentally I'm good - bought myself a good little gimbal camera setup as I get ready for summer and vlogging around Welly greenbelt on the new scooter. Yeah I'm 50-mumble-something and revisiting my late teens/early twenties.
Family in France are starting to get a little stir-crazy, eldest daughter hasn't been able to work since March and has thrown herself into the wine-making aspect of the farm (to the chagrin of the vintner) but seems to have decided that as we're not selling any of this years crop, she may as well have it all to herself.
Right now, my goal-setting is all about returning to Aus in '22 to complete the final removal of everything back to NZ. Job market is still pretty gruesome (last three jobs I went for had over 100 applicants per position with a great deal being people around the 45-55 age bracket, so I'll continue with the cleaning work as long as I can - quality of life is reasonable and I'm saving nicely.
