@MiketheSnow Agree. But remember a lot of countries (including this forum's main one) the governance message is we are shut until vaccines exist, regardless of how long that takes.
Indeed
UK hasn't shut its borders and has a pathetic quarantine operation so locking down its population just doesn't make sense.

Negative result emailed through in the early hours. RESULT!! What a shenanigans though, at risk of being called Karen, over 72hrs really isn't good enough.

@pakman @MiketheSnow I agree, simply looking at the number of positive cases is a waste of resource, how testing has"improved" those figures would be telling, as would the locations of the greatest levels of testing. I'm still not complacent about the deaths as yet, this could still escalate alarmingly. First though we would need to see the data on hospitalisations. I read today that in Paris 40% of ICU beds are now taken by Covid patients. That IS a concern should we follow down that path.
The Government has been telling us we're on the France path for almost 2 months...
Over the last two days we’re now way ahead of France in regard to new cases according to Worldometers. Mind you, could be just our shit testing regime catching up.

Not sure why you'd leave out @Virgil's pussy grabbing. Especially with how much he likes to talk about Trump.

Hard to know what to read into it to be honest. It's mainly concentrated up in the so it's hardly fair to wipe the whole country out. But hey ho, guess that is what is going to happen.

Sadly it’s looking more and more like some sort of lockdown and it will be interesting to see if the public willingness is still there. I doubt it.
I’m not sure localised lockdowns will be any more popular if based on the blunt instrument of positive tests. ie we have seen a surge in cases down here but looking into it the vast majority are in the 18-25 age range, coincidentally just as the Uni opened up for
educationbusiness. Builds a fair bit of resentment, especially if now the rest of us have to stay locked up dreaming of divorce. -

Look back through the thread.
Speculated that a reset-lockdown was imminent over October Half-term school holidays a week or so back.
Looks like it's on its way.
Fuckers.

@MiketheSnow It's been speculated for a while. But there is a huge amount of opposition building to the 10pm curfew and future lockdowns. Tory backbenchers are rebelling & who knows what side Starmer and co got out of bed this morning for their position.

Just checked the stats for France and I sit corrected.
We're absolutely on France's path of
high testing
high positive cases
high recovery rate
low deaths (under 100 per day) -
@MiketheSnow I wish I had your certainty that we’re all going fine mate but I don’t. The data we have is constantly being upped, is open to interpretation and is seemingly in the hands of incompetents. There are some data points that support your more laissez-faire view and others that put a lot of doubt on that view. I have no real idea which will turn out to be nearer the mark and I suspect the Government are in the same position. What to do? Tank the economy and do all possible to revitalise things or preside over X00,000 deaths.
Politically one will stain you for a hundred years.

Don't disagree with your take on the the data collectors.
But their narrative is being driven by the data they are collecting and presenting.
They're presenting a narrative and forcing actions on a cause and effect which isn't supported by their data.
That's what I'm frustrated by.
High spread = high cases = high deaths = lockdown
Any sane person can get behind that.
The reality is very different. Has been for months. And is being replicated in countries who are weeks to months ahead of the UK.
All in (NZ approach) or all out.
The UK middle road isn't working.

Estimated new daily Covid admissions to hospital in England up from 30 at the beginning of August to 430 odd now. IMO that puts a new light on the current government reaction.

Shows why people disregard the virus at their peril. That is a significant jump. Leave things unattended and watch the numbers skyrocket
