    Why didn't Canterbury contest that last lineout?

    Plenty of questions this season that start with those 3 words.

    Hopefully these young guys are learning hard lessons from this that we can build something for next season.

    how good a game is this???

    There were some class moments from Otago tonight.

    The number of breakdown turnovers / penalties seemed really high.

    Who was the ref? He was pretty quick on the old whistle with some of them.

    @ACT-Crusader spot on. Should have tied it at the end getting the ball and a penalty within the 22. Team not what it was.

    I think that is known as the Thorne effect

    @ACT-Crusader Pickerall. Definitely known for being quick to the whistle.

    @ACT-Crusader PIckerill.

    I think Otago's first try should have been a penalty for Canterbury as the Otago player ripped it while the Cantab had been tackled and knees were on the ground.

    Was very quick on a couple of not releasing calls, then let a couple others go.

    @taniwharugby Some knock-ons missed too.

    I wasn't happy that Pickerill rewarded Drummond for deliberately passing into a player bending down so the not straight from the resulting lineout was justice.

    Speaking of Drummond, he was shedding a tear at the end, such was his disappointment.

    There was plenty of standing and fist pumping at the end there

    Collins leading from the front, not winning it on his own but he seems to spark stuff In others

    Have to say we were lucky with korois try, thought it could have gone either way and I thought they would call it out

    Attack was a bit frantic but defence was fast and accurate

    Slade had a huge game but he should get a rocket for his showboat try

    pretty much seals Otago into a home semi.

    I know HB have an eye on the shield challenge next week, but they also have a home semi and possibly final to play for too

    @Bovidae I hate it when refs give penalties for rubbish like that. They should just call play on when players do that.

    @African-Monkey Good to see the refs telling the opposition not to yell out gibberish at the lineout as well. It was mentioned that Doleman warned Ta$man last week. I see that shit in 1st XV rugby too.

    I’ve never really understood calling out the line out...your allowed a quick huddle...why not just tell everyone then?

    Thought Brendan Pickerill was much improved in controlling the game tonite. Didn't like the way Drummond milked that penalty but he and Mackay gave it everything. Hard loss for them. Cameron was good too. But Josh Hohneck was motm for me. Josh Ioane was a mixed bag but some nice touches. Nasi Manu great too

    Blame Gregan 😉

    Unless there is a change in laws, I don’t think the ref can do anything different but award a penalty.

    Disclaimer: I am a former halfback.

    I’ve enjoyed the fact the refs have let some of that stuff go, also haven’t pinged players trapped in the ruck for not retreating etc

    Damn, the big question is not what is going on in Canterbury club rugby, nor whether Ruben Thorne is actually a worse coach than player, but whether these poor results have been caused by the fern just being too damn mean to Canterbury.

    I have seen refs call the halfback out, and tell them to play on.
