The flip side of shit fruit is that the vegetables are superb.

It took me many years to appreciate that, as my dear old Mum had just the one method for cooking all vegetables. Boil the bollocks off them. They all ended up soggy and tasting of dirty water with the occasional aroma of sulphur. Once I found that you could actually add flavour rather than leech it all out, I became a big fan. Even Brussels sprouts now and again.

Didn’t we already have a thread for favourite foods?
.....and another one before that ?
We are talking nutrition here, Jock. Take your deep-fried <insert unhealthy already food here> national culinary traits elsewhere ...

I’m the first to admit Scotland’s culinary delights are about as appealing as as an intimate evening with Ursula Carlson.

Images of that will make you shrink faster than a skinny dip in Antarctica

Forgot to say the biggest change has been the anti-fat stance in favour of the low-fat but sugar substituted products.
Professor Yudkin the first guy to go head to head with the Sugar Daddies (primarily Corn producers) was ridiculed and run out of town.
He was right all along.
Low fat products have made the population fatter, with a side of diabetes.

Yep, very well known fact that. When something is not at it's natural level of fat it's replaced with something worse for your body.

Excise tax on sugar and fat, spend the money susidising decent food and meals.
Related, families work and commute a lot more than 60 years ago, so have less time to prepare veges etc. That's a macroeconomic issue, but would be something I would personally work on (says the resident leftie).
Have Labour ever seen a problem they couldn't solve by tax?
A tax on sugar is just going to make people poorer, it won't change behaviour. IMO, the better approach is to remove GST on the foods you want to promote (eg Fruit and Vegetables) and educate kids in school (which has been happening in my kid's school)
I got the idea from noted Labour Party supporter, Gareth Morgan. Neither Labour nor National actually listen to economists on this type of thing - if they did, there would more taxes on externalities than there are.

I cannot abide sweet foods. Natural or processed.
I actually cannot fathom why people crave such a one dimensional sickly, sticky taste. As a component to give depth of flavour yes but as the overriding flavour for me its akin to eating a cup of salt. Great as a flavour enhancer but fuck off on its own.

Tropical fruit is a proper marmite thing. Pineapples, mangoes, melons, lychees etc are the absolute nuts. Super sweet. Yet, you then get dragonfruit (fucking cardboard), durian (gas leak anywhere) and jackfruit (known as a duck substitute).
funnily enough i am not a massive fan of tropical fruit
Cold mango is amazing, pineapple is fucking great, the rest can fuck off. I have two high producing Paw Paw trees in my yard, but i can't stand the stuff. Too sweet, don't like the texture. I just give it all away.
What i have noticed as i have got older (or changed diet, not sure which) is my tolerance for deep fried foods has fallen right away. Too much of it and i feel like shit straight away.
