@Machpants I can carry 4 schooners but what about when I send the wife to do it like normal?

P.S. pint glasses are wasted here in summer unless you're sitting inside

Nah mate - when it comes to technology, it's all about the beer.

Speaking of which, I was in Beer heaven yesterday. What a fucken treat Beervana was.

good fun, eh. Tasted a shedload of different beers. BOTD was Garage Project Excessive Machine. https://garageproject.co.nz/products/excessive-machine Just insane.

Plenty of good brewers, and good food too. Finished up after 5 hours there to go to the pub, then another pub, then a pub for dinner, then a cafe, then off to bed. Great fun.

It's worth a trip to GABS sometime too. Quite a different expereince, but a chance to drink a wider range of beer (they do paddles). Nice thing about the Cake Tin is that you never see all the people - it's curved, so it gets busy but never nuts.

True. I've been in pubs in SA where the regulars sit at the bar with little 'ponies' (a small schooner) and the barman just continually tops it up from the tap and keeps a tally. When it's 40 degrees your beer gets warm pretty quick.

My mate has the flyer so I'll need to cross reference but we made a point of trying every single one of the American ones and a couple of the English ones. I didn't bother with Tuatara, had only one Panhead, etc cos you can get those easily in everyday life.

Behemoth do some incredible beers, weird naturally but their weird shit works better than others. Pecan Pie in a beer ? Madness.....but it works.

@Duluth please feel free to move this chat to the beer thread.

Australia and Auckland, but a very different setup to Beervana.

@mn5 did the same as you, but in reverse! Avoided the auckland breweries, but smashed all the welly ones we could find.

I did want to try that red bubble Garage Project one but there were too many lines so fuck that then they sold out. But again, I can get Garage Project any time I want so didn't really see the point in any of the others.

And if it is humid the glass sweats like a bastard leaving your table looking like a recently de-commissioned ice rink.

@Crucial haven't heard "pony" in years BTW. We called them "sevens" for which I have no reasoning as they're actually 5 fl oz.

My experience was that it was different in every state. Schooners, middys, pints. That article says the term pint (for a proper pint is everywhere except SA but as you know, ask for a pint in NSW/ACT and they will wonder what you want. Also only ever heard of a pony in SA/NT

In NZ we do this weird shit where we call whatever the bar uses as their 'big' glass a pint. Hardly ever is that actually a pint. Closest probably about 500ml

Yep, every "hard drinker" who could drink 10 "pints" in NZ without breaking a sweat found it much tougher in the UK during their OE.

Not me of course, my British father pre warned me pints were bigger there before I went over.

Google tells me a pint is 473.176 mls. Most ‘big’ craft beers at the pub are 440ml as opposed to the 285ml option.

    Ah righto, Imperial vs US.

I could do 10 pretty easy in the UK but I was a massive pisshead in those days. Would be much more of an effort these days.

It works out just over 17 handles in NZ.....also not taking into account the litany of much stronger beers on the market.

    jesus, no kidding.

Mind you, they have lower alcohol beers too - 4% is a sessionable beer. Also, cool and not too fizzy makes easy drinking. We paced ourselves pretty well on Saturday at Beervana, and made sure we ate and drank water. No one got munted, and felt pretty good the next day - just tired

Yeah I deliberately chose a couple of sours cos they had the much lower alcohol content. That helped us pace ourselves. I also had three separate meals during the day !

Not sure off the top of my head the strongest beer I had, possibly the pecan pie one or a scotch ale, both just under 10% from memory.
