Maybe Jordie is a better cricketer than winger ?

I’m only half joking when I say this

What surprised me was how decent some of the Rugby guys are at cricket and how shit some of the cricket guys have become.....at cricket.

Might be amusing to have on in the background while doing something else.

My high school experience was that a lot of successful multi-code guys were cricket and a winter sport (rugby, football and hockey mostly), so with rugby being the money option down the track, I could easily see a lot of potential Jeff Wilsons out there who picked pro rugby in their teenage years but were only a nudge off professional cricket had T20 been an option at the time.

Ironically, IPL and T20 leagues mean you can potentially earn more money for longer in cricket. It's remakrable how the economics have changed in the last 20 years

Yeah you could be right. As if to completely contradict my earlier point I think it's fair to say a lot of the cricket guys were probably playing down to the level of their rugby counterparts.

Case in point even Chris Martin could probably tonk me all over the park in BYC if he tried.

For anyone who remembers Mark Priest, he batted #10-11 for NZ, #8-9 for Canterbury and #4 for his club. Very much a case of even average players at international level are beasts in club cricket.

Not to mention the central contracting system now exists, so they can get paid to play first class cricket which also wasn't really the case 20-30 years ago. We sometimes hate the BCCI, but their money basically makes professional cricket viable for a much larger pool of players.

Yep, and likely the reason we have a decent cricket team in all forms. We can afford it because we aren't paying for it all. The guys have other income streams, BBL, IPL, CPL, etc.
