Saying goodbye to a teammate leaves hearts full and eyes Red
There are some blokes who can step off both feet, others who are the heart, soul and very core of a team. ‘Red’ O’Connor was the latter.
We played a social (but highly competitive) game of touch together 2 or 3 times a week for a decade and often caught up for beers at the Rag and Famish pub in North Sydney until he and his family moved away from Sydney after which we sadly lost touch.
This really came as a shock, such a great character and yeah, only 3 years older than I am.

Undoubtedly. Guys really FOUGHT in those days unlike so much of what we see nowadays ( cough cough Floyd Mayweather ). I’ve watched that fight on more than one occasion with the old man, both guys were absolutely tough as fuck.
Hagler only got knocked down once in his whole career and even that was disputed as possibly being a slip. So powerful and intimidating at his best.

The actor, who played the lead villain in the 1973 Bond film, also starred in hit TV series Homicide: Life on the Street
A brilliant Bond baddie, a tough smartass in Alien and Arnies buddy in The Running Man. That’s a pretty damn impressive CV. Had a huge presence on screen. Two of those movies are in my all time favourite lists actually.
