At Uni we thrashed Sublime, Counting Crows, RHCP's and Smashing Pumpkins more than anything else I can remember.

Before Uni, it was PJ 10 and a LOT of Snoop

@majorrage Stockdale is fucken awesome eh. That's one song I would replay over and over when it came on. I hate being one of those people, but that song...

yeah. However here's a challenge for you. Try to listen to a full Wolfmother album. Or even a spotify playlist.

Bet you don't last 5 songs before you're bored.

@mn5 Yeah, I should have some chilis' in there. Funnily enough, I'd say my favourite albums are CAlifornicatoni / BSSM, but the one I've listened to the most is probably By The Way.

    Odd how life works.

One Hot Minute, Mother’s Milk and the Uplift Mofo Party plan are brilliant. Even the first two are decent enough too

Sheee-it. It's been a long time since I proper thrashed an album.
And even longer since I listened to Smash. After the abomination which was the album one or two after that... I wouldn't have ever admitted to owning an Offspring album.
With my music collection sitting in the UK, it's probably about time I started downloading albums in the order I first heard them, and re-living my younger years in true middle-aged man style.z.

That is a great point. Who does nowadays with playlists ? My car was in the panel beaters for a week so had to borrow my Mums....Angel Dust was in the CD player......from the last time I borrowed it. Still a terrific album.

I originally wrote some long bullshit about how I was an early adopter of selecting the "random" option - even back in the day of my 3-CD Aiwa stereo system.
But yeah, nowadays, I typically just have several dozen CDs, or artists, thrown onto the phone - and the random option on.
Only a few times in the last few years have I decided to listen to a full album start-to-finish... and each time I did - I didn't regret it.
The last Pretenders album - I listened to that several times in a row - that was good.

I'm looking forward to, if I remember, restocking my music collection - year-by-year, and doing a good solid middle-aged man revisit of my original musical "journey", all over again.

Working from home has changed that for me. Been listening to a lot of old school albums in their entirety.

Yeah a mate of mine ( basically housebound since Covid ) has done that lots too......the ones I listed are ones that have few ( if any ) songs worth skipping. No matter how much you like a band and album that’s pretty hard to do, most have a dud or two.

Hence, me having The Wall on my recently thrashed list. Really wanted to get to know this album, so put the time in. Reviewed it on another thread. And despite it's magnificence, it has some incredible dross on it.

Apparently Dave Gilmour played bass on half of it as well ! Whenever Roger Waters won plaudits for his bass playing he thanked DG privately......Also apparently Nick Mason had to get the drummer in from Toto for one of their albums too ? How ridiculous that Rock titans have to resort to this.....still I guess the bank balances make up for it somewhat.

Only full albums (well, CDs) when listening to music at home for me. Last year I spent weeks listening to all the live CDs I have in my collection, including bootlegs.

@MN5 Jeff Porcaro played the drums on Mother.

What was the story there ? Was Nick Mason not good enough ?

Dave Gilmour was the best muso in Floyd by a long shot I reckon.

    Wiki says:

The song is notable for its varied use of time signatures, such as 5/8 and 9/8. Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason found these time-signature changes difficult to learn, and, with the band recording on a very tight schedule, ceded the drumming duties to session drummer Jeff Porcaro.

Porcaro could play that in his sleep.

Yep. I actually got out some vinyl the other week. Great sound.

Oh and back on to albums that were rinsed back in the day - Rattus Norvegicus by the Stranglers.

@mn5 From what I have read, David Gilmour is, vocals aside, almost the only band member recorded on the album. The quality of playing is a huge step up, and the sound is so much bigger. Gilmour played the guitars, aside from some Lee Ritenour parts, the Pocaros played drums, and several other top session musicians filled in the other parts.

Don't forget that when Pink Floyd had to re-record Money for their greatest hits album that Gilmour recorded it all himself.
