@rancid-schnitzel Sounds familiar!
An idea which I used (for training as well) is to get a route and then reduce it each time. It's easier mentally than running loops around and around . E.g if you have a relatively flat 6k distance, you start at one point, run out 6k, then run back. At this point you've done 12k. then on the same route run 5k an back ... then 4k and back .. 3k and back ... 2k and back .. 1k and back ... and it sums to 42k. You can do something similar using 500m drops as well, or if you just have some waypoints you regularly use on your routes, measure them out and use them.
I find using this method is much easier mentally than running loops. I'm fortunate enough to live near a canal which is obviously very flat, but has a well maintained tow path beside it which is perfect for running. I run 6k one direction, then 5 the opposite etc etc. It's a bit tough having to wait 12k for first water station, then another 10k, but everybody knows what British weather is like so water isn't as important as elsewhere!

Cheers. Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. There is one stretch along the river which is relatively flat and “comfortable” to run. If need be I’ll use your suggestion along that stretch. Alternatively, if it’s cancelled but we can still travel the we’ll stay at the air bnb as planned and run the farking course anyway.
But right now it appears that it’s still on. Considering they just had the Origin here last night, they’d better have a pretty damn good reason for cancelling it.

So 3 day lockdown. Probably a good outcome because it ends on Friday. The usual bellends will pat themselves on the backs for a job well done, condescending thank us for being such good children and hopefully no restrictions on Saturday.
Just to see the stupidity of humans in action I went down to local supermarket. Packed and toilet paper already gone. Sometimes I want off this planet.
-
@majorrage I used to love running along the canals!
In fact I had a memory pop up on FB today form when we went back in 2013 and I got lost after leaving the canal path thinking I'd do a loop around a Moor and little block of forested land instead of 'there and back' along the canal.
Hour run turned into 3 hours haha

And it’s cancelled. Fück you Pallachook and that fucking walking Scarecrow of a CMO. What a massive fücking joke. I will run a marathon on Saturday with a Fück You Pallachook shirt on.
-
As mentioned, due to our functioning retard of a premier having locked down the state, the Marathon is cancelled. Given that lockdown ends on Friday and the marathon is on Sunday and everything is already set up I’m not sure why they still can’t continue. Perhaps means that lockdown will continue.
So I will still run one but I don’t know where. If lockdown ends then we still have our paid accommodation so have to go down to the GC. So I’ll run it there. If it doesn’t and we can’t go down then I’ll just run it here. I’ve decided to not do any of that virtual stuff. I’ll rollover my entry to 2022 rather than have to fork out again. I’ll do this one for me and can hopefully enjoy the crowds next year.
So just relaxing now. Lockdown has again stuffed up preparations and I can’t do my planned swimming. So just going for walks and stretching. Will hopefully be full of fizz on the weekend!
-
Right so lockdown extended, which means GC is out and If I run this thing it will be here tomorrow. That absolutely sucks balls but I won’t let that stop me. Apparently pouring rain predicted for tomorrow too so this gets even better and better. I’ve marked out a relatively flat part and will do 4 there-backs of that. Also strategic because there are water fountains and toilets. This will probably suck big time but at least I can’t say I did it the easy way.
Carb loading is fun 😁

I feel like a cripple today but I bloody did it. Was my shitty, half arse course and it was pissing down raining but I farking ran a marathon. Or more exact, 43km just in case the GPS was wrong.
The worst part by far is after 30km. My right leg was causing me grief fairly early on but it got worse from there. Was trying to adjust the pace to loosen it up but I think my running technique itself might have problems. Anyway, got through it. Left a variety of drinks and gels under my car, which I picked up when I passed. My parents came down a bit later and gave me a much appreciated can of V.
I crossed the “finishing line” completely alone although there might have been someone walking a dog in the distance. So no crowds, no medals, no shirt, but I’ve done what I set out to do.
I never really felt fatigued but when I finished I hobbled like a gimp to the car. Sleeping was hard too. I seemed to wake up every couple of hours because of my legs and then of course that Ginga cnut of cat jumped on them. I really should have stretched or rolled out immediately afterwards. Stoopid mistake.
So been there, done that and didn’t get a shirt but I’m definitely going for one next year. Not only that, I’m planning to do the half on the Saturday and full on the Sunday.
Exercise is a hell of a drug!

Top work fella and yes, exercise is a drug although I do different drugs than you ( long distance isn’t my thing haha ) although having incorporated a lot of heavy bag work into my routine the cardio gains are pretty decent.

Still aching like a bitch. Should have ordered a massage. It’s hard to sleep despite being exhausted.
Hit gym this morning and was glad I did. Did upper body of course but managed some time on that sit down bike thing. Swimming tonight which should help recovery. Looking forward to getting back to normal next week.
-
Fuck yeah bro! that is an awesome effort, you mad bastard ha ha
Good idea on the massage, hopefully that sorts the legs out. Man, it'll feel weird running another one next year surrounded by people!!

It will be! I ran past a young couple while running this one and they put masks on as I approached. Hopefully all that stuff will be over by next year 🙏.

I feel your frustration indirectly through the potential future Mrs MN5. She was training pretty hard for a couple of running events which got cancelled cos of you know what and with the colder months upon us has barely been out for a run since. Naturally she’s put on a shitload of “girl weight”…..( three, possibly FOUR kg ) so is feeling a bit down about stuff. We’re doing a few walks, occasional park workouts and I’m trying to persuade her to hit the bag too ( I tell her to pretend it’s me if I’ve left the towels on the floor, not cleaned up the coffee machine, left a mess in the kitchen etc ). hopefully she joins me hitting it soon cos it’s pretty addictive !

That’s why it’s important to “diversify”. If you only run or only swim then you got nothing to fall back on if you can’t run or the pool is closed. There’s always something to do if you’re creative.
-
Interesting week. I look back to when I did a half marathon 5 or so years ago and how I was so flat, a little birch etc after that and compare it to now. The marathon was much tougher and despite the sore legs I’ve been itching to get back into things rather than curl up in the foetal position. How things change! But yeah, lesson learnt about the legs. Definitely book a massage if I run a marathon next year.
Getting back into the pool was a glorious feeling. Swimming is just the 💣. Definitely aided recovery despite being a tad cold (which is good sometimes because it’s too cold to stay still and you have to keep moving).
I’m glad the marathon is done and dusted and I can go back to a more regular week. Towards the end there I couldn’t do a proper leg session at the gym because of the pain. I’d like to focus a bit more on the gym. Feel I’ve been phoning it in there a bit recently. I’ll also return to the Saturday intervals after swimming. Should be much nicer on the knees!

9 days. Dammit
Drained today but not because of exercise. Let’s just say cheat day on Saturday went a wee bit overboard…
Been on and off the can making gravy most of the day. Thought maybe I’d eaten something off but gf got me to list what I’d eaten. It was only the usual breakfast of oats, 3 eggs, protein powder and berries, then 4 pieces of vegemite toast, 3 rice cakes with peanut butter, a meat pie, 2 chicken burgers, a bowl of noodles, 4 muesli bars, 2 protein bars, 3 hashbrowns, 5 turkey mince burritos (500g of mince) and a tub (900g) of Greek yoghurt. Also had most of a 400g pack of frozen strawberries.
Gf rather rudely suggested that my disgusting gluttony was the reason. I think she may have a point. Fark that’s ridiculous.

That’d be considered a healthy day for a lot of lardos I reckon.

Well it continued today as well. Gf reckons it could be lactose intolerance. I don’t eat any dairy other than spot of milk in coffee so perhaps 900g of Greek yoghurt wasn’t the smartest move

Chicken, turkey, eggs etc. Lots of sources of protein. Was smashing nachos not that long ago so don’t know how intolerant I am if it is that.
